Information Gap.

These are two Dialog's (A and B) for the initial video in the lesson.  Well, it's really just one dialog, with half of it on one sheet and the other half on the other sheet!  I had my students work in pairs.  The first student READ the words out loud until they came to a blank space.  The other student wrote down those words in the blanks on his sheet.   Then the second student would read while the first student would write down the words missing on his sheet...well, you know the drill.  I tried desperately to place the emphasis on reading and listening, not just copying.   ???  I also stressed helping your partner and spelling the words for them if necessary.

Good luck!

Here's a ppt I made about the biggest family in the world. saying the kids were amazed is putting it mildly.

Here is a story I made for the 5th period of lesson 13.
There are 3 levels.  For the first level the students have to guess the words that are hidden.  For the second level the students have to rearrange the fragments to make a complete sentence.  For the third level the students have to rearrange the words to make a complete sentence.
I hope this helps some of you.
Feel free to edit and change as you like.

For this lesson since it's about family, I made a ppt about my own family. I will introduce each of my family members to them, and then each family member will have a slide saying.... "My brother likes to read," etc etc. Since kids are usually curious about you and your life, this could be interesting for them. Just an idea, not gonna upload the ppt cuz it's just pics of my family. Good luck :)

This is a Golden Bell for Listening and Writing. Students use white boards to respond to the listening portion. It is broken down into X or O, Multiple Choice and Listening Carefully (an item is described, they write the answer). Students begin on top of their desks. When they get an incorrect response, they sit in their chair. At the bottom of the slide is the listening portion that you read to the students for each question.

Thank you for this! I'm going to see if I can get my bad classes to sit down long enough to play!

I made a powerpoint with my own family and then used the sentence structure from the lesson with my own family. I had silly pictures and gave the students one min of question time where they could ask me anything about my family! The students really enjoyed it! :)

I used one of Daejeon's amazing templates to make a "monster family" game for lesson 13. When you click on the monsters in the woods, they students will be asked about the monster's family. Students must answer correctly to get points.

Seems like a fun game!  How do you access the questions? When I click on a monster it laughs and leaves?

Really? For me when I click on a monster I am brought to a question screen. I'm not sure what the problem is. Try checking your security settings to make sure PPT isn't blocking certain actions?

I don't get questions either.  I've checked security settings.....  I'll have to figure it out.  It looks like a really cute game!

Read the first two slides that outline how to modify your trust center.  Set VBA to allow, and security to low.

Will not work on - open office, or on macs.

Office 2010 users, save my games as .PPTM to get them functioning correctly

My boss asked me to make something special for Halloween. So when I thought about family + Halloween my favorite dysfunctional monster family, THE MUNSTERS came to mind!

Here is a powerpoint that introduces the family, then has a fill in the blank "game" about who is related to who using the vocab.

This is my first contribution here and it took me a few hours to make this so enjoy!

My first lesson for this chapter fell on Halloween.  I used the Munsters after reading your post and my kids really enjoyed it!  Thanks for the idea.  I threw in some Addam's Family characters to use as aunt, uncle, cousin, etc.

So I found a game on Dave's ESL cafe called clue family.  basically you give the students hints about a family tree and they must complete it.   Unfortunately I am not super creative so I used my own family.  If you download this you probably want to switch out my name for yours, or if your kids know about your family change a few things.   There is a Korean vocabulary and some of the hints are translated as well, I have a lot of low-level students.  my kids love problem solving games, so this should work out well.

I plan to bring in a picture of my family and have the kids "interview" me about my family. They would ask me "Can you tell me about your mother, father..etc." to which I would answer "My mom likes to... or My dad likes to...". I would tell the kids to take out their own family pictures (which I would have told them to bring prior to this activity). And they would "interview" each other families and answer the the question. I would choose one pair to come up and present to the class their "interview" using a fake microphone.

i decided to teach my students about using adjectives to describe their families. the book goes over "My ____ likes to ____." a lot, but only dips into "My ____ is ____." I made a ppt to teach them some fun adjectives and to go over when to use "how kind of you." it worked well. grammar usually bores them, but there were fun pictures! i also made it interactive enough to keep their attention.
