Teach or review/movie?
« on: September 25, 2011, 08:04:59 PM »
My schedule is as such:

Mon - Middle school, Tues-Elementary School, Wed-Fri-Middle School

Now, considering we have midterms starting wednesday, and tuesday im in an ES, should I spend my one teaching day as a review/movie day? The movie is the Lion King since weve been talking about animals)

Or should I have a regular lesson. All my classes are on the same schedule in terms of lessons, so with the holiday next Monday should I just teach a lesson and get them 'on par' but at the same time ahead of the other classes that week?

Thanks for any advice :)

If the lesson you would be teaching isn't on the midterm, I would do a review lesson.  Will any of what you've been teaching be on the midterms?  If so, review.

So in the end I did a review/movie.

The main issue was EPIK had me start a bit late. I only had 2 true classes with them: The week before and the one before that. So a full review class was kind of pointless since 50% of it was the week before.

I don't use movies. Most Principals/Vice Principals dislike it when foreign teachers used movies it's considered lazy and a cop-out. I know my previou school the Principal used to go from classroom to classroom and spy on the teachers from looking through the window. I wouldn't want the Principal looking through the window while I had a movie on. I'm in Gyeonggi-do and they are just looking for little excuses like that to get rid of us.

However in the past I have used a series called " Wallace and Gromit" you can get their video's on EFL Classroom 2.0 Use" A Close Shave. It has simple English subtitles that can be easily understood. My basic rule of thumb is to never use a video with Korean subtitling. The students will not pay attention to the English spoken. They will read the Korean they will not learn anything. Throw away those Simpsons video's with Korean subtitles they are 100% useless
