Here is a guessing game for period 2 which is about colours. It is also practicing reading. The students read the word and guess "the tree is black". Each team gets 1 guess. If their team guesses correctly they get 1 point.

I am also going to play a whisper game. I will write the days on the board. The students will whisper "today is Monday. I have English class". The last student has to pick up the English class flashcard and put it under the correct day.

Let's Play from the book appears to be

Students stand in one or two lines (depending on class size)

Teacher asks student at back of line -- What color is ______?

Student asks student in front of him and the question waterfalls it's way to the front, front student answers _____ is _____. Goes to back of the line.

We'll see how it goes!

Colour by numbers worksheet with days instead of numbers intended for use early in the unit. Reading/listening/chanting exercise. If you care about colours, the order down the page is brown, blue, green, red, white, yellow, orange (or pink actually). Picture is Uluru. Could be fun to mess them about though, dunno.

If you don't like the British spelling of colour, recall you may possess liquid paper.

I think I am going to use the Very Hungry Caterpillar instead of the role play for this lesson. I will have the students watch the story and then write the days of the week and write or draw what he ate for each day.

Simple and too the point. Best of all, after the first couple times you don't even need the music as the tune ("O My Darling, Clementine") is easy even for the most musically challenge (like me).

Why can I never get the simpsons game(s) to work correctly? When I click to go back to the main screen the numbers never go away or turn purple. But they do turn purple when I exit the full screen presentation and go back to edit mode. Help???

updo... do you have powerpoint 2007?

I ask because I do and this never works right for me either. However, when I use it in my classroom (which usues ppt 97 or 2000) it works fine.

for the colours lesson -

the intro ppt just teaches / reviews colours with a few sentences for context

the game is a direct rip-off from dr kawashima's brain training. in teams (i've set it up for 4 teams) the students have to shout out the colour of the word that comes up (NOT what the word spells) - effectively ignoring the meaning of the word and just focusing on the colour of the text. They each get 60 seconds to get as many right as possible (the co-teacher will have to help explain and do the counting). It's confusing, but super-competitive.

And obviously the whole team has to say the word together to get the point, no quiet slackers ;)

If it needs to take longer, you can make them complete the entire set and time each team to see who can do it fastest.
