2010 Grade 3 lesson 14 Merry Christmas
« on: November 02, 2010, 03:06:45 pm »
Here is a PPT I made (with the help of previously posted templates) for grade 3 -  Merry Christmas.
It reviews some basic holiday vocab, fill in the blanks, hidden picture and word scramble.

If your students are at a lower level, you may want to add clues to the word scramble part.

thank you SO much for sharing these! i absolutely love them.

also, im biased, because if there is something i love, its the holidays.

BTW, anyone else teaching about Hannukah and Kwanzaa? I figured it'd be nice to expand a bit.

Hey, just did the first part of the lesson today! Below are PPTs that i used. The first one is a very short PPT about Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The next one is a PPT for "I am so..." it was a couple different feelings. After that i had a Pass the Ball PPT, but the sound file is all messed up so I'm not including it ^^;

Anyways, since another key expression is "Can you find.." I have a short PPT with that structure. The last slide has an embedded link in the title: "Let's find hidden objects!" You know those pictures where you have to find random objects hidden within the picture? I figured it would be a fun way to get the kids to say "I can find...". I also had no clue what other activity to do for it. Anyways, I asked the class "Can you find the elephant?" One student should answer "I can find..." and then they point it out. If no one was raising their hand to answer, then I had the whole class say "No, I can't find..." They were actually really good at finding the objects. Took less time then I did....

All grades seem to like this song, "I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" which is apparently complex but actually simple.  One of it's virtues is that the song hasn't been translated into Korean, so there's a good chance the students will actually sing the English lyrics while conceptualizing their meaning.  Here is one Powerpoint which has not been synchronized, so you have to click through each slide as the song plays.

Here is a review for the bomb game I just posted.

I should mention that these are intended for period two. There is a period one intro ppt. at the beginning of this thread that these build on.

Here is a hidden picture ppt and the hidden picture worksheet. The ppt doesn't go over all the objects in the hidden picture, but the last slide on the ppt shows all the answers. The idea is to give the students some time to try to find the answers with a partner. Then go over the answers together. The students practice asking "Can you find the ~?" and one student is picked to show the other students where the answer is by clicking on the spot where the hidden picture is.

Here is a powerpoint which has a few peoples put together. Plus a make christmas cards activity where they write inside what they want and also draw a picture on the front of the card. At the end of the power point are some links to christmas songs and i have attached some lyric sheets on here too. I wont be doing this all together the songs will be a different lesson!

Here's a bomb game that someone else made- I just changed it so that some of the key phrases are used. E.g. "Can you find...." "I want ........" Because they are third graders I thought it would be better for them to point to the items they should find rather than expect them to say bottom left or bottom right, but maybe if yours are of a higher level they will be able to.
