bahahahaha I seriously laughed out loud at this video! "Look on top of his head. What can that be? It can only be a pizza box" That was my favorite line.  Clearly people carry pizza boxes, and buy one get one free garlic bread, on their heads.  So Marco Polo stole spaghetti, pizza and garlic break for sure! What else did he steal from Asia?!  Loved this video! Thank you for my entertainment of the day.

Sorry my comments bother you and others. I'm not trying to make friends just making a point. And the point is valid that people haven't seen the obvious that the Ad is mainly in English. Therefore everyone saying it is for a Korean audience even a young Korean audience are quite possibly wrong. I'm guessing it must be for a Korean American or American Audience. So when people stop saying its for Native Koreans I'll stop saying its in English.

It's in English because it's a parody of an English documentary... the Korean subtitles are there so that the target audience can understand.

That's a good point that many people seem to be missing. It's clearly a parody of the National Geographic style documentary. That's a good reason for it to be in English!
In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

We are not "guests" in Korea. Korea didn't invite us over for Pimms in the garden. We are paid employees.

I was originally pointing out that although most of us think it's great, some Koreans would be offended. If you look on the Mr. Pizza website there is 1 chain in LA. I doubt the commercial is intended for an English speaking audience. The reason a New York production company is used is because a Korean firm would have a harder time making this sort of commercial.

Other than viral advertising, the point of the add is made clear when the CEO says "Original Pizza". There are 4 main 'quality' pizza chains in Korea (discount pizza chains don't count). Papa John's, Domino's and Pizza Hut are all American, Mr. Pizza is Korean. The point of the add is Mr. Pizza is original Korean pizza.

Someone pointed out which group of Koreans would like this advertisement....it is not the 'buy Korean' group that Mr. Pizza would appeal to in the first place.

Ye.  Go to Mr. Pizza and take a look around.  Mostly 20 or 30-something women in a group of friends or dragging their boyfriends/husbands in.
C is for cookie, that's good enough for me.

I have to ask: are any of you actually structuring a LESSON around this video when you show it or are you just saying 'ha ha ha this is so funny OMG OMG u totally have to see this!!!'??
This is a crisis. A large crisis. In fact, if you got a moment, it's a twelve-story crisis with a magnificent entrance hall, carpeting throughout, 24-hour portage, and an enormous sign on the roof, saying 'This Is a Large Crisis'.

I just threw it in for the last 5 minutes... which I often do because I have to teach 1-1 the same leson as 1-5 (graded classes..though not nessesarily in English) so 1-1, 1-2 will have a bit of extra time at the end. If they look a bit tired* I just put on a funny video for the last 5 minutes otherwise we would do a tongue twister or some sort of spelling game.

*My students only finished exams on Tuesday.

Eat Pizza... made by Mr Pizza.

Actually, they're trying to develop their brand image.

To be honest, I think they mostly just succeed at satirizing nationalism, and the whole point, which is to sell more Pizza, gets lost in the ad. Sort of like how the Old Spice guy is now a big star but Old Spice sales are about the same. Satire doesn't really sell things... especially food.

I don't think anyone is going to feel particularly hungry after watching this... I also don't think that someone who agrees with their opinion on nationalism is going to feel like they need to eat there.

I was just making a joke because of marsavalanche post where he does the whole "no one understands this commercial" and then leaves it to us to guess what his amazing insight was.

In my defence developing brand image and people eating their Pizza are pretty close.... it just happens later.
When I go to the store and the choice is Mr Pizza or some brand I don't know my subconscious will tell me "I have heard of Mr Pizza it must be good".

Then I will buy whichever one is cheapest  ;D

I showed this to many friends back home and another forum, and many of the Americans and Canadians got it right away. Although some people missed that it was a joke advertisement (not watching until the end... ADHD much?), this commercial could very well be for a broader audience than younger Koreans.

You don't even have to be able to access a Mr. Pizza or know the chain to understand that it is an excellent example of well-produced satire.

Hilarious and absolutely a great step towards being able to laugh at themselves and see the often-present humor in some of the rampant natonalism.  Would love to know more about the creators.

I think it's great and agree that it's not one for every classroom. I showed it to some Korean friends and they thought it was funny.

I showed it to my MS after-school class (brightest students) yesterday. They got it - they just didn't think it was that funny. I guess it just lacks the subtle wit of Mr Bean.

Dominant form of humour in Korea is slapstick, as opposed to wit or satire, so it doesn't suprise me.
