@jgmenator,
I like using short animation films in my classroom as well! Got the most laugher from the students when I showed them 'lifted'. Thank you for sharing your lesson PPT and worksheet. It's a great idea!

Hey all,
I though I'd share a lesson on Walt Disney that I did with my 1st grade Middle school classes since it relates to animation movie theme.
I've attached PPT, lesson plan and worksheet. You can record the script for listening gap fill and just play it in the class so you don't have to read it everytime. I usually recorded it and played it twice.
Also you can find the song "The whole new world" on youtube.

Enjoy:)

Re: Animation class - Comic exercise?

These are very cool lessons!  8)
If I were to contribute something, I would suggest that maybe having a simple storyboard of the short with empty comic book dialogue bubbles might be a nice addition to the already fun packed lesson. Suggesting that students give words to the characters for the story might be nice to get them to think creatively and to generate their own English, although that might be an activity for Middle School and up.

Does anyone have any experience with this? is it a good idea? Is there an easy way to produce these storyboards? Or is the somewhat laborious photoshop option the only way? I figured I'd throw this idea out there since I've been thinking about these lessons, and see what people think of it. If I do that in the future, I'll post any story boards I come up with.

So here is my first attempt at doing a comic based on one of the videos. I started with Scrat's Continental Crackup, but plan to do more for the other videos I show. I basically included the comic activity with the other activities that the OP has in his lessons. I also included a couple of the students' finished comics, which I thought turned out pretty well. I helped out with spelling and such, but they came up with the language themselves. Let me know if anyone has any suggestions, criticisms or comments. Thanks!

Here's a new animation PPT in the likeness of jgmenator's.

I've been using jgmenator's materials in my classes, so I figured I'd keep the format pretty much the same.

The only differences are:

I combined the preview and review.
I eliminated the extra writing PPT.
I embedded the youtube video into the PPT (you need macros enabled to view it).
The worksheets are in the PPT.  They are no longer separate files.
There is no extra game.  I figure you can use any of the game templates out there to make your own, if you want.  My students are a little sick of bomb games...

Enjoy!  ;)

Yeah, most of the originals posted have since been removed. Some can be found again through searching Youtube, but others can't. I've found others with torrents and such, but Scrat Gone Nutty is still on youtube here:

Hope that helps!

Thank you so much jgmenator!  These lessons are awesome.  My students really enjoy them and are having fun while learning English.  Truly outstanding work!

Also thanks, afraley for the comics.  If you made comics for any of the other clips, it would be great if you shared them.  I will try to make comics as well and will post them when completed.

Here's on for Oktapodi I just made. I make them as I need them, so unfortunately that will likely be my last comic until next semester. I'm really lazy like that  :D I make them with Comic Life and they're not too difficult to make. I'm sure other people could probably make better ones than mine too. But I'll keep making them as I need them. There's also one for For The Birds floating around in another thread somewhere.

BTW, I found a cool plugin for Powerpoint to easily add videos from YouTube/Vimeo/etc.
Check it out!
http://www.authorstream.com/desktop/

I have one more Animation lesson PPT, but it's too big to upload  ::).  Any ideas? Maybe I just need to wait until this site gets its upgrade...

Wow, that's a cool video I hadn't heard of before. Thanks for adding it!

I would maybe suggest using a separate file uploading site, like rapidshare. The way the KPop slam threads do it.

Or, you could leave a placeholder in the PPT for the video (Assuming that's what's making it so large), and leave the link to the video in your post and let others download and embed the video. Just a couple suggestions. Hope they help!

I posted this one before, but there were some mistakes.

I'm using it for one of my summer camp lessons, so I've also added more to it.

I added a comic strip and a basketball game!

Enjoy!
