Waygook's webserver has been upgraded, and users should notice a significant performance increase during peak site hours.  We will continue to monitor the servers for some time to ensure it meets the needs of the growing user base.  Thank you from the waygook team :)

Welcome to the Waygook community forums.  Feel free to browse the site, and sign up for a free account to have access to lesson plans.  Waygook is geared towards EFL/ESL teachers in South Korea, however we do like to cater and help out fellow waygookins all over.  We are also on facebook for convenience.

1000 Words Filler Activity
« on: October 26, 2011, 06:24:03 PM »
Another time-filling activity.

In teams (of however many you choose, but 4 students works really well), the students must nominate 1 writer and then that writer down as many words as they can think of to describe 1 picture at a time. The point is to elicit as much vocab as possible. It is up to you how long you leave the picture up on the TV for. I usually vary it during the lesson, allowing anything from 5 minutes to 30 seconds. Do an out-loud count down from 5-1 before "pens down!" Then ask them to count up how many words they have, go and check the ones who think they have the most (only accept 100% correctly spelled words) and then give the team with the most words a point.

There is a promise in the PPT of candy for the winning team, so be warned.

The students LAP this activity up for some reason. Good times.
