K-Pop Slam 2
« on: October 26, 2011, 03:39:24 pm »
Hello!
I teach high school but they are very low level so I'm posting in the middle school section.  Also, this is where I found the inspiration for my lesson.
Shawol created the “K-Pop Slam” Game- which can be found here http://waygook.org/index.php/topic,15003.0.html.   The lesson was so successful as an after exams treat that I decided to create another one with all new songs. I've used the template of his lesson to create my own.  Recreating it made me realize all the work he put into this lesson, so again, thanks Shawol.
I used my 3rd graders (who I don't teach) and my co-teacher as great resources for the songs.
I hope you like the lesson.  Thoughts on songs, or how to improve the lesson are welcome since I still have at least a couple of weeks before I do this for my classes.
Important Just like the previous K-Pop Slam please don't remove the power point from the folder or the video files won't work.  move the K-Pop Slam lesson around on your computer as one file.
How to get the lesson:
Waygook won't support the large file size and I don't have a sharing site.
However, my friends and I created an account for sharing lesson plans when we first came to Korea.
Here is the link to download off that goggle documents account
Please download "KPop2Revised".  It all play with one click (the 'surprises' with no clicking) and very easily now, thanks to some info from Andyroo.
Edit December I fixed the word document and changed the speaking K-Pop surprises to singing K-Pop surprises, the kids get more into it, in the new KPop2Revised.

Let me know if there are any problems.
Cheers.
It features songs from the following:
Brown Eyed Girls
Dalmatian
Park Bom
Jay Park
GD & TOP
Girls' Generation
Jewlery
Rain
Tablo
Secret....
If you don't have a gmail account
I'm sharing this from an account that I have with my friends to share lesson plans.
Log directly into the account with this info
login:  lessonplansgangwon@gmail.com
password: Englishlessons
Go to 'Documents' at the top.  'K-Pop Slam' should be at the top of the list for things to download.  Click to finish.

These are the captures I took with my web cam of the game loaded on my computer:

Hrm,
Perhaps you haven't extracted the files yet.
You download the folder as a zip.  Mine opens up the ALZip program on my computer where I can view the contents and even open the files but the videos, and perhaps the board does not work until you press the folder in the right hand side menu and then press 'Extract' up the top.
Let me know if that solves the problem.
Also, if you have already extracted properly please know that it is important to only put the folder on to your desktop.  Don't put it inside another folder.  Just drag the k-pop slam on to your desktop and use it from there.
Others seemed to have problems with the last k-pop game when they put it inside another folder.  The links to the video and the links within the powerpoint itself might not work if you do this.
Hope that helps.

Thanks!  I hope it makes a good lesson.
I actually borrowed my friend's mac to edit the clips over the weekend.  It was the easiest way.  The few I couldn't get done then I did on the youtube editor but that took a few extra steps so I was happy for a mac.  I'll have to buy one when I return home.

@Marina
It pops up to a log into gmail account.
If you have a gmail account just type in your address and password and it will take you right to the link.
If you don't have a gmail account you can log directly into the account- it's just a sharing acccount I have with my friends.
so login:  lessonplansgangwon@gmail.com
password: Englishlessons
Go to the top and press 'Documents'
The first thing on the list should be 'K-Pop Slam' lesson.
And then download.
Cheers.

I really appreciated the word doc you included. I just loved the effort you put in and I know editing videos takes a looooong time.

You mentioned you only have Korean powerpoint so I changed the timings so the vidoes play automatically and you don't need to click on them to start.

Probably not worth an upload but given I did it I think I may as well.

Thank you very much for this, my students loved the last one.

Thanks, got that! Now I can access the file, I try and download it, which takes me to a screen that says "Your file is too big to scan. Download anyway". When I click "Download anyway", the hyperlink changes color and that is that. Nothing else happens. I do have the unzipping program on my PC that you mentioned, but alas! Once again...Am I doing something wrong?
Sorry guys.

@Andyroo
Thanks for that.  Also, the lightening of the images on the first two slides so the writing is easier to see.  I forgot about that trick.  I'll figure out the non-double click one day.
@Marina
I'm not sure about this problem.  You aren't getting the 'Save this file' with 'ok' and 'cancel' popping up? Are you downloading with explore or mozilla?

No, none of that. I am downloading with Explore. Will try Mozilla.

Thanks for the replies guys. Like I said, this KPop Slam is such a hit with students.

I'll figure out the non-double click one day.

I can't explain it for Korean powerpoint but for English one you chose the option for the video to play automatically and then you add an entrance effect for that video.
You will have to hit the arrow keys to put the entrance effect higher in priority than the play effect because it will be initially below it.

@ Marina- glad to hear!
@ Andyroo- thanks for the explanation.  I love how much re-doing this power point has taught me.  I figured out how to do that from what you said and what I already knew through trial and error.  The example slide was still a double click so I fixed that with your help.
Cheers.

Ahhh this is just what I am looking for to plan for 2nd graders who need more motivation to learn English. Great idea, just hope I can get it ready in time for tomorrow.

Thanks so much
