Pet Microchip and Rabies Vaccination?
« on: November 08, 2011, 11:32:28 AM »
Anyone have experience of getting a microchip and rabies vaccination for a pet (in Korea) in order to take it overseas?

In order to enter the EU I need to get these plus an "official veterinary health certificate"  from the vet.

Any ideas?, my local vet doesn't do it, that much I know...

Different vets do the microchip. The rabies should be no problem for any vet. Dr. Pet in Seoul helps people ship animals so give them a shot they should be able to help you.

I thought you needed a pet passport to enter the EU?

From the DEFRA UK website (from Jan 1st 2012 the UK is bringing their policy in line with the EU standard ie. no quarantine for vaccinated, chipped and documented pets)

"Have you got an EU Pet Passport or Official Veterinary Health Certificate from your vet certifying the microchip, vaccination and blood test result"

It's the 'Official Veterinary Health Certificate' that I foresee being a little tricky to communicate...

I'll try Dr. Pet, do they speak English?

Hi there,

Have you tried Chungwa Animal Hospital in itaewon? Phone number 02 792 7602.  If not there is a vet in Noksapyeong, at Itaewon Animal Hospital who also speaks really good English and has these services available their phone number is 02 797 6677

Depending on where you live now is the time to do the microchip.  I believe it is now mandatory in Gyeonggi-do to get it done and it will be free for some time.  I live in Gunpo and just had my dog microchiped at the local vet for free.

As stated the rabbis vac. can be done anywhere for about 20,000 or so.

I find this whole "mandatory requirement" for pets to be "chipped" very disturbing.
It was only a couple decades ago that this notion of embedding microchips into human children
will soon become reality.  They predicted it would first start with chipping pets (dogs, cats etc. so owners
could track them if they ever got lost).

With media psyops work done around "missing and abducted" children, they put the scare into you and make the idea of "chipping" your kids seem not so bad after all.

I can understand why vaccination and rabies shots should be mandatory (public health & safety) but mandatory chipping?  That's just scary.  The scarier part of it is, we're all starting to get used to it and accepting it like it's no big deal.  Human children are next and soon, it will be MANDATORY for everyone to be chipped, else do time in jail, and possibly be revoked of all citizenship rights and privileges if you choose NOT to get with their "program".

Chips are just a more modern version of a collar tag it provides contact info for the owners. Dogs and Cats get lost more often than children and are unable to tell the person who finds them who they are or where they live. Thus chipping them makes a lot of sense. It also allows a vet to easily verify the animals vaccination status etc, once again the animal cannot communicate this itself unlike a human being.
May I suggest you move to decaff coffee?

When we adopt animals out to people here in Daegu and tell them they're beginning to require this in many countries people get a mortified look on their face. Then they usually say something about 1984.
