Hey
This message is to those of you who have successfully completed a Gepik contract or know the process really well. In the Gepik contract, it says the employee will get there 900,000 won deposit back one month after completing the contract (why is that anyway?). My question is do you have to wait 30 days to receive your deposit back or can they give you it within your last paycheck? If you had to wait, did you receive your money back in a timely fashion? As for the severance pay, the contract only states that they're required to give you the money after completing your contract, but doesn't give a specific time line of when you will receive the money. Since your required to leave within 10 days of completing your contract for airfare reimbursement, I'm just worried about receiving the money within a reasonable amount of time, preferably before I leave Korea. Has anyone had any experience with receiving your deposit and severance late? If so, how did you handle the situation and was it resolved?  If you have any experience with these matters, please fill me in as I am to scared to ask my co-teacher for fear of her thinking I'm paranoid because my contract ends in 7 months and would like to put my mind at ease now.

thanks guys

They hold onto the deposit for 30 days to make sure all your bills are paid.  And as a basic insurance policy that you will see your contract through to the end and not leave without notice.

You might have to wait up to 30 days.  Most people get it back sooner than that.

I think you will receive it within 10 days of completion at the most for severance.  The best way to handle the money due to you is to setup an Easy One account at a KEB and link it with your account from your home country.  Give this account # to your coteacher/handler prior to leaving.  It is a remittance account which will automatically forward all the money to your home account.

I wouldn't start freaking out about end of contract terms yet.  It is way to early for that, so don't bring it up with your coteacher.  You should bring it up with your coordinator though if you are worried.  Where in Gyeonngi-do are you?

Yeah, Im in gyeonggi. Who is the english speaking coordinator and do you have that persons info? the reason why im worried is because the school has often payed me late for overtime hours. Its like pulling teeth to get the pay coordinator to do her job.

Overtime classes, usually afternoon special classes or English Play for example, often comes from a different source (like PTA or a special budget) than your regular pay check.  Or it might be stuck pending approval from another office.  So getting the money for it might take longer than your pay.  For example, if the PTA is dragging their feet.

Or your school's pay role administrator is just not very professional...but there are a number of reasons why your OT might come late.

I PMed your coordinator's contact info.

As long as the people in administration are professional there should be no problem. I abrogated my contract early, halfway through the second year but ad no problem getting all the payments due to me. And, except for the security deposit, I got them a few days before my last day. They came by my apartment the last morning I was there to check it out and my deposit money was in my account that afternoon.

I had a good relationship with my co-teachers and the people in the administrative office, but I think there were no problems due more to their professionalism rather than any special love for me.
