Rolling Stone Best-Of lists are the worst things ever.

On an unrelated note, best guitarists from the past 30 years definitely needs to include:

J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.)
Omar Rodríguez-López (The Mars Volta)
John Frusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers)

J Mascis is just a behemoth of a guitar player.

Glad you mentioned Omar and John.

Frusciante is way too under rated. People should listen to his solo stuff. Personally he is the modern day Jimi.

Polls are pointess to me. Guitarists and music are personal.
Clapton who no doubt is great, is ranked above Frusciante who I connect with the most of any musician I have heard.
Does that make one better than the other? Maybe technically, buy what a musican makes you feel determines what you like the most.

Also, why isn't there any decet music these days?? Just manufactured crap. Old school bands still the best.

Gotta agree with you there. Frankly, my favourite band of all time is Bad Company. I think Mick Ralphs is a great guitar player but I wouldn't put him on my top 10 list.
Lord Buddha please help me, for I am not smart enough to make it dumb enough for them to understand.

Even though I would put Hendrix at #1, I'm surprised by how many 'musicians' on here would even put him in the top 10. All of my friends in college were either guitar majors, music majors, or guitar players and they all preferred 80's guitarist styles -- complex, technical stuff.

Not meaning to derail this thread or anything but this seems somewhat related:

I like how you just said two modern guitar players are awesome, and then immediately after said there's no good modern music.

Music quality is at an all time high these days. Bands like Bon Iver, Mastadon, Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Arcade Fire, Lil B (thank you #basedgod), etc. are all in their prime, and that's just naming really mainstream stuff that's commonly known.

Kanye and Gaga will be remembered just as much as Madonna is.

Just because something is pop doesn't mean it's bad music. And plus, when the Beatles, Zeppelin and the Stones were current and contemporary, they had their share of haters. People too closed-minded to appreciate their music thought they were terrible music, too.

I don't know whether Gaga will be remembered or not. However, while I don't care for her current music, her pre-Gaga performances were pretty good. Moreover, anyone who is okay with Weird Al making a parody of there song cool in my book.
