Wallace and Gromit: The Wrong Trousers
« on: November 25, 2011, 02:01:57 pm »
This video was a huge hit with my students! I used it for Grade 6, Lesson 15, It's Time to Go Home, but it could also be used for any lesson with the sentence structure, "I ____ at ___ am/pm every day." It could also be used as a general movie and quiz filler.

I edited this Jeopardy powerpoint to go with the video. For the "Make a Sentence" heading, they can write any sentence but it must be correct. Also, I tell them the questions get more difficult the further down and further to the right.

Oh, and it's a good chance to explain some English (UK) terms, such as trousers or lead.

This is really great! I am going to use this for my after-school demons today! I will let you know how it goes! I think I'm going to post a supplementary sheet to go along with this they can fill out as they go along.

Thanks a bunch!

Thanks for the idea OP.  I was inspired to make this quiz based on W&G's Cracking Contraptions.  Went down well with my Grade 1, though almost anything at all is too hard for the class I just had.

So - I can't upload the actual 2 minute animations as I have saved them in the wrong format for waygook.  They are available, very good quality, on youtube.  Same with the theme tune - wrong format for waygook, also found on the internet easily.  I may change them and upload if I get chance.

The Quiz - Format: watch the 2 minute animation then choose to answer one of the 5 questions (I work with 5 teams in my class).  Some are easy (jumbled sentence), some are harder ('explain...') and have points generally fitting the difficulty of the question.

The hyperlinks
- Need to be adjusted if you want to click through to the movie.  Within the game, click on the blue square to go to the questions slide, anywhere on the question slide to get the answer, on Gromit to return to the leader slide (for a wrong answer) or on Wallace to go to the points slide.   Click on W&G to return to the leader slide.

I just showed this to my 5th and 6th grade after school class.  They were laughing hysterically.  It went down wonderfully.  We didn't have time to play the Jeopardy game but I introduced some of the vocabulary to them at the beginning of class and then helped explain some of the dialogue as we watched.  They loved it.  Thanks OP

Devil Mogun:    Did you show all 8 of the videos BEFORE the game?  How did the students remember them to play the game?
I love the ppt btw....I'm just trying to figure out the details of how to go about the class.  I'm not sure my students would remember what they saw in each video to play the game.

No, I showed them the question board and had my co teacher explain what the different questions would entail, then watched the first video.  After they saw that Team 1 chose a question to answer, then team 2 round to team 5.  Then I showed the second video and Team 2 chose which question they wanted to answer, then team 3 etc.

It worked really well.  They got the answers to everything - surprised me on a few.  We only got through 4 videos but they all stayed behind to watch another one because they loved them.
