Why is MY topic locked?
« on: November 27, 2011, 11:00:24 am »
I notice how my threat NATIONAL PRIDE is locked out. No foul language, etc was used. However.....Occupy Wall Street thread which is VERY controversial is iup and running without a glitch. Interesting much? Doesnt matter what side you fall on....as long as speech is respectful and clean, whats the deal??? be fair: LOCK BOTH POSTS....or.....just lock this thread and "punish" me. Yeah. I will await the obvious. Prove my point, admin Sara

What we have here is an example of a mindset exemplified by people like Sarah Palin.
The patriotic "real" Americans are allowed to come out guns-a-blazin' demonizing their political opponents.
When they encounter pushback, they play the victim and accuse the others of being pretentious, dismissive, condescending, etc.
Of course, thinking people realize that if you read the OP's OP, he was doing the same thing he accuses the responders of doing.
Simple-minded, self-righteous nonsense

my topic has no value? well that is your opinion. Dont like it? Lock it. Dont like the person? Ban them. You seem to pick and choose. And please tell me what is the redeeming quality of the OWL thread???  I can see why Dave's ESL is the leading site online now

This is some tiresome foolishness.
Sometimes it's best to disengage and allow your debating opponent to discredit themselves.
Peace out.

to be expected. very one sided message board. mods who make the rules as they go along and posters who complain at minor spelling screw ups on a KEYBOARD. thin skinned. loved my PM from a Mod who said "we cannot check all posts"-in reply to my complain they do not monitor the OWS remarks...only mine. They sure took the time to skim through my post and pick and choose what they disliked. again...typical, to be expected

I answered this question in a PM to the OP but since we're making a show of it -

Trolling is against the TOS to which you agreed when signing up for the site. Please look over them again, trolling is listed as amendment one.

http://waygook.org/index.php?topic=2425.0

It has nothing to do with your actual opinion, but that you made a post just to criticize other users. It only served to elicit an argument. I like to allow discussion but the thread was quickly changing into mudslinging and name calling between you and other users. Like Rusty said, we usually allow debate but it's important that users are not attacking each other. This is a site for professionals.

The OWS thread was not a rant but a discussion of current events. The Waygook team has shut down many rants posted on the site as they have nothing to do with teaching in Korea. If you find a post that you qualify as trolling, please click the "report to moderator" button. It would be impossible for us to read every post on the entire website.

I'm confused about your comparison to Dave's ESL Cafe. Waygook.org has no connection to that site. You agreed to the rules of Waygook.org when you signed up for our site, and we will hold you to those rules. If you choose not to abide by the rules then you shouldn't post on our site.

Please let me know if you have any more questions.

sara...how do you know I made it to critisize others? It was meant to be an open constructive statement, meant to foster a discussion and debate. It accomplished that goal. Nothing was trolling about it. No TOS were violated. No foul language. Nobody...on either side personally  attacked the other. And your opinion that it has no value or merit is purely that...opinion. I am WELL AWARE you have no connection to daves ESL. it was meant as a comparision. They seem to be very open and respect all sides and dont close shop because they found a loophole in order to close down discussion they disagree with on whatever level, with no reason. And please stop copying and pasting your TOS, I know them well. I violated none. Please copy and paste the ONE I violated. Gracias

notice 2 things folks:  1. i am being WATCHED simply for having a debate and 2. the MODS are very much so monitoring this thread. Yeah, for good cause. You know how much foul language I use and threats I have made. Good call. This is what open debate is all about?????

Guess its time to silence the dissent...bye for now
« Reply #9 on: November 27, 2011, 12:26:28 pm »
i have been WATCHED, which I assume is the step before being booted. well i guess "you win?" is in order. Congrats. a dozen against 1. good job. but do ask youselves this question.....was this fair or warranted? disregard your opinions of my post. i respond when I am engaged in healthy debate of ideas. one mod, in particular, i believe seems to have a problem with my posts. and yes I have seen not 1 TOS I have broken. I have not attacked, been disrespectful to a particular member. Just a dissenter. I can clearly see that differences of opinion are not welcome here, and all must fall into the same mindmet. thats fine. just remember...what happens when the shoe is on the other foot? not so fun, eh? so, to the mods..."I surrender" you may take my lands hahahaha. Ill meeage yall when I need reviews on local pizza shops. Expect this message to get me booted. :)

The watched status just lasts for a number of days and after that runs it's course, unless you violate the tos of course.

Why do you feel the mods are against you?  Which posts of yours do you believe were the problem?  Could you quote them here?

Just out of interest as the mods here tend to be pretty fair.

and yes I have seen not 1 TOS I have broken.

The direct quotes from your posts and the corresponding quote from the TOS were sent to your email as I thought it was inappropriate to post it in the open. You have continuously posted trolling messages along with attacking and harassing others.

As Dwaedgimorigukbap said, you will only be watched for a few days. It's a warning system we use to keep track of users who violate the TOS. As long as you follow the TOS from here on out, we're happy to have you on the site.

That thread was merged into this one because they share a topic. Notice how the subject of the messages contain both thread names.

I'm always here if you have any questions about the warning you have received.

I hope I'm not violating the tos here, but the following strike me as offensive, defensive, brash and essentially - inciteful

if I have any mistakes, they are minor. yeah, attack the messenger and not the message, typical. this is not a classroom, mr pretentious, its a message board. got it?

Yes, which is why I'm inclinded to dismiss your 'letter' as a drunken rant.

At any rate, if it's of any interest to you, I take no pride whatsoever in the fact that I happened to be born just north of the 49th parallel in the western hemisphere or that I get my DNA from people I never met who decided the UK, Ireland, and Europe were good places to leave.

not a suprise. people like you guys are dismissive of others, especially ones who do not conform to your belief system. you feel that your beliefs are superior and you yourself know better. that is condecending and ignorant. but again, i expect this in korea from fellow esl "teachers"...i have encountered this. the bad thing for you folks is, not everyone dismisses sentiment such as mine as a drunken rant. i will extend enough courtest to you as not to insult you personally. i dont expect the same back. typical.

Perhaps ybs was out of line too for accusing him of writing a drunken rant, that was unnecessary, but the bolded parts above would have you banned on daves on a mod-happy day.

I don't know, seeing as this is an open thread, I thought why not other posters comment on if they found amercianteacher's post out of line or whatever.

Not trying to backseat moderate or anything.  Lol, me.

American my tuckus...no seriously, I'm all for drunken rants, but his belly-achin kinda reminds me of that time I was in Cleveland and was hell-bent on convincing patrons I was a very stylish girl...Smeared lipstick isn't convincing when you're sobbing,  "Why won't they belieeeeeeeve me?!" Sniffle wiffle, it's pointless and a waste of time.

To answer your Q Pighead, some say he's passionate, others say he's overly sensitive.  I'd call him a flapping head in need of some duct tape and some downers.  He's overly excitable like a toddler on a tricycle.

I think that what Sara is so patiently trying to say is that there's no need for pointless, predictable arguing and bickering. Your subject is a perfect one to inflame a group of expats, of whom about 33% are Americans and of whom many are anti-American foreign policy and / or view the American lifestyle with some disdain. The fact that some of your posts look like the ranting of a drunk doesn't help, either. Basically there are other places on the Net where you can have this argument.
