Cooking Class: Peanut Brittle - No OVEN needed
« on: December 01, 2011, 03:11:04 pm »
I've done chocolate cake in a mug, ice cream in a bag, no bake cookies, rice crispie treats, and a few other things (like pizza/banana bread/seven layer bars) requiring an oven with my classes.
I figure some of the rest of you are in the same boat. So here's my suggestion: peanut brittle.

All the ingredients are easy to findin Korea. My teacher's class loved making it (so simple a few are trying it home on their own). They were also impressed by it's hardening. Best of all, it has been liked by 98% of the Koreans who have tried it.

Extra notes:

1. Oil can be substituted for the butter. It shouldn't affect the taste. (At least mine didn't).

2. Add the baking soda fast, or it won't look right when you are done. But even if you don't, they don't know any better and it still tastes okay:)

3. You need a stove top, but I usually just bring my burner from home and an extension cord.

4. You can also show this video on how to make it.

The English was too hard for my low level students, but I just wanted them to be familiar with the steps. I explained them again using the simple recipe before starting.

Hope this helps. Good eats!
