Oddly, this one escaped me in the local media when it cropped up a week back, but I stumbled across a rather nice tribute
here on an unrelated search.
Essentially, she was a renowned Korean scholar and historian, but most importantly was basically the one who rediscovered Korea's lost
jikji (basically the first modern printing press) in France and helped cement one of the nation's claims to historical fame. Ultimately, the
jikji is
legitimately one Korea's greatest inventions and a point of pride for many Koreans (especially around Chungbuk Province) so some tribute is deserved to the one without whom this chapter of history may still lie in obscurity. Have a read at the link above as the story of the rediscovery itself is rather interesting.
There's your historical tidbit for the week.
