Heroes

For this lesson I would show the students a PPT on heroes, and explain characteristic on what makes them a hero.  Then I would give them the worksheet and have them interview each other and find out who their hero is and why.

my class is working on this similar project, since the chapter we are dealing with now is "Heroes in my heart"
since they are in 2nd grade in middle school, they have very little amount of vocabulary, but their ideas were brilliant and i literally impressed by their work! Thank you for sharing your idea!

 One of my friends just did a lesson on this topic, it was about a lesson on vocabulary & the topic was Superheroes and their powers like strenght, agility, speed, sight, hearing etc. The kids had a blast trying to connect the right heroes to their powers! It really works well with kids and teenagers!

I just read this idea and thought it was a great suggestion for a lesson. I teach at a middle school. Did you tend to find that most of the students were familiar with the tv show 'Heroes'?

here is the link to the prezi I did with my middle school classes. I used this with first second and third grade. They seemed to like it quite a bit. First I asked them if they knew what a hero was. They called out random names like " Super man" " Spider man" and I wrote them on the board. I introduced the idea of human heroes, people that we look up to, so we could include some of them in the list.

Then I asked them what made those people heroes, what "traits" did they have. With my kids we had to define the word trait.  We wrote down things like "fast" "famous"  "rich" "kind".  Then we ran through the Prezi. I had them guess who the "heroes" are when it shows there picture. Some they did not know which was okay. Then I had them guess why they were heroes. After we went through the prezi I had them go around and ask each other who their hero was a write down the name of the student and their response.


Then I showed them a poster that I made about my hero, my old college professor. Then I asked them to make a poster to present to the rest of the class. The poster had to include the person's name, what they did (vocation), why they were the students hero and three traits that person possesed that made them heroic. Most of them did thier poster as homework and then presented it at the next class period.

I really loved doing this lesson and seeing the different people that the kids really care about and why!!!  Some of the material in this prezi is contains modified material posted here previously.
