Anyone used OK Recruiting?
« on: December 09, 2011, 03:04:52 AM »
I've seen a fair amount of job listings posted by them over on ESL Cafe, and wanted to see if anyone had experience with them before I applied.

Thanks!

I used their services in 2007 to get a hogwan job.  Bonnie, my recruiter, was super helpful, kind, and professional.

I actually just got offered a job on Friday, but thanks for your post.
I found this one with RBI Korea, and so far, so good with them too :)

I know that you aren't looking for the info anymore, but I figured I'd give my opinion for anyone else interested.

I applied with about four different recruiters, and ended up taking a job through OK Recruiting. Jay sent me two or three jobs at a time, and if one didn't work out,  he would immediately send two or three more. The other recruiters would stop emailing me after an interview didn't work out. The consistency of his offers made the process feel muuuch less stressful, as I didn't feel obligated to take a shitty job just because I didn't know if another one would come through or not. And the job I got was fine.

Thanks for all the comments.
I think the school I got should be fine.  I talked with past teachers and it seems decent, the location is nice, and the apartment is across the street from the school.  Good stuff.

An update on RBI Korea--They're still good.  It seems the response time is a bit slower (or maybe I'm just more anxious because my departure date is approaching and the fact that they're based in Korea...15 hours ahead of me), but they're still good about answering questions.  Don is who I've been in contact with for the most part.
@mintwaxedfloss--I honestly wished my recruiter would have sent more at a time like that.  Ah well, I think it should all still work out, and I just have to chalk it up to a learning experience.

Thanks again.

i used Jay, or should i say that Jay used me...

anyway, he gave me the details fo for an after school position but signed me up with a hagwon.

after arriving at the hagwon i was informed my hours and vacation details would not be as promised..

i told him i was quitting, and he paid me 800,000w to keep my mouth closed about the "mishap."

after receiving the money i confronted my hagwon boss and negotiated something that kept us both happy.

i will not be using them again...

I applied to OK Recruiting and got a one-line response within 24 hours telling me to apply for public schools.

No doubt in my mind because I'm Asian-American.  Still trying to contact Jay to see if he'll even pass along my name/resume to ANY hagwons. Probably not.

I'm Asian-American too, although only half Asian. Jay with OKR did inquire after my nationality but didn't seem to be too put off by it. I admit I did send him the 'whitest' (lol) pictures of me I have. Most noticeably Asian about me is my eyes so I kinda just picked pictures that downplayed that. Anyway, he said he's sending me jobs shortly and seemed to like me otherwise. I'm supposed to have an interview through Planet People for a job that sounds pretty good so we'll see what ends up happening.

Well I'm glad to hear that.  Do you have all your docs already?

No - CRC w/apostille is due to be back to me this week though. I have LORs if I do IMOE. Letter of intent to graduate as a placeholder. Graduating May 6 and will get a letter saying I've graduated, unless my position starts a bit later like September in which case I'll just wait for the degree itself.

I've looked into this company as well and exchanged emails with Bonnie.  They are very shady in the sense that, Bonnie asked me how my interview went.  Usually, recruiters are the middle man.  I was offered a variety of positions and you can see many, but I would just say try for public school.  Very secure, and guaranted to not be TERRIBLE.

??

I always had recruiters ask me how my interview went.  I find it odd that this is 'shady.'

Bonnie got me the job I accepted a few years back.  She was fine.  Not shady.

Well at least in the States, and having worked with recruiting companies in a gov't IT field, the recruiters did/should do all the work.  Why?  Well if they are anything like Japan, a HUGE chunk of the salary is paid to the recruiters, companies, etc., so they should work for it.

The recuriter not communicatiing to employer is exteremely bad.  It doesn't matter how YOU think it went.

But thats my two cents.

Recruiters generally get 1,000,000-2,000,000 won per hire.

It's commonplace for recruiters too ask how how interviews went.  In fact, I think every interview I've had for a job introduced by a recruiter has been followed up by questions from the recruiter.  She's just asking how it went so she can gauge your willingness to take the job.  I've had countless interviews via countless recruiters and they were all like this (I came to Korea over 3 years ago when jobs were falling off trees and you could reject anything you slightly disliked).

My first ever job here was through Jay.  He did his part, I completed a year.

I think overall he was very good.  I know a bit more now, as I also recruit but he did his job.

Only thing was when my pay was late but even then he consoled me & I was pleased with them overall.

I would not say that Public Schools are more stable, recently many teachers were paid late due to the budget.  Thats a different subject though.

I do understand peoples concerns with recruiters.  I have placed many teachers & all have been pleased.  We only deal with reputable schools who are stable.  I or my co workers are always available to give support to new teachers.

It is common courtesy to ask how an interview went, it is also that we want it to have gone well.

Anyway, not an ad for my services but I do not deal with any hogwon, just well established ones who are genuine.

Best regards to all.

I got a job through them once, sort of. The hagwon's owner asked me to lie to the recruiter about not taking a job so that he could save money. I don't know why I was dumb enough to work for this place (but it probably had to do with blowing most of my money and being desperate for a job ASAP). Anyway, it was a horrible place to work at, and the owner ripped me off a bunch, too. I'm glad they didn't get paid for recruiting someone to work there.

It's just another recruiting agency though. I don't doubt that they have good jobs sometimes, too. I remember Bonnie being easy to deal with.

I've e-mailed them TWICE in the last two weeks and have yet to receive a reply.

I feel like I've hit a wall or something, though. Been here for 15 months and looking for a new job for September/October. Hearing almost nothing from recruiters, despite having a CELTA, 15 months kinder/elementary hagwon experience and a great reference from my school.

I attempted to use OK Recruiting. I applied and didn't hear anything back for a month. Not sure if it's cause I started applying close to Christmas time or because I was lacking really important documents (didn't have degree yet because I had literally *just* graduated when I started applying), but yeah. No response for a month and by the time they got back to me I had a pretty good thing going with KorVia recruiting so I told OK nevermind.
