Especially with the whole STD thing
What I've read indicates a lower rate of STDs in Korea.
Hepatitis is huge here… and there are also things that you can get even if you do use protection. Or things that appear once and then disappear until serious health problems later in life.
Before I came here, I had never seen so much prostitution in my entire life… certainly not girls with cards being liberally distributed at every hotel. Someone is keeping the industry thriving, and I don't think it's only English Teachers and soldiers.
Believe what you will, but I think it would be amazing if most of it was being reported.
Hepatitis is not just an STD. I found a chart that puts it at 12% in Korea vs 0.5% in North America. But that's also the same in China, and Japan as well.
http://www.pkids.org/files/pdf/phr/02-09globalhbv.pdfgoogling revealed this had something to do with a low vaccination rate, and transmission method is varied, and apparently 30% can't be traced, and transmission between family members through saliva to broken skin can occur.
Last I checked though the HIV/AIDs rate in Korea was several times lower than that of the west.
However a lot of sources I'm finding are over 10 years old, and I know aren't taking into account the changes in north america where some STDs are making a strong come back.
