1 FBI check or 2?
« on: December 12, 2011, 02:28:41 PM »
Hi, I'm a little confused about the documents we need.  Do we need 1 original CBC for immigration and 1 original CBC for the ministry of education?  Is there a grace period - e.g. 3 months to get the documents?

It's getting more complicated every year ...

I'm pretty sure the grace period was this year. They were wanting it for renewals from the beginning of 2011, but realized this would be hard, so extended it until 2012- so we would have 12 months to get it.

I don't mean to derail, but I have a similar question.

I might be moving from Public to Hagwon soon, but the FBI check might complicate things.  Are you saying that we are  given a grace period to get these things?  Like, can we get the job and hand in the paper work when/as it is processed?  I might just give up on teaching here if I have to go back home for 3 months to wait for my slow government to process a useless piece of paper.

If you use a private company in South Korea-you can get the US FBI check within 1 month average. Bit costly though.

w4z if you have a contract that starts at a private school within 30 days of the end of your public school contract, I'm pretty sure you can just get an extension on your current visa without having to get a new background check.

ncg115: You should only need one (federal level, apostilled!) background check.  If you are planning on getting an E2 visa the background check is valid for six months, unless you're transferring from a private school to a public school, in which case you'll need one no older than 3 months.

If I am understanding your question correctly, there is no grace period.  If you are applying to a public school position, you have to have all of your documents ready by the document review period (whenever that is).  For a private school, you need to send the background check and some other stuff to Korea before you can get an E2 visa.

The MOE only needs photocopies.
