Can anyone recommend a decent recruiter.
« on: December 19, 2011, 03:37:51 pm »
I'm looking for a new job. Can anyone recommend a decent recruiter. Also, if anyone knows of recruiters to avoid please list those also. Could you also please say why a specific recruiter is good (or otherwise).

Thank you,
Toshiba

I chose Footprints as I had heard good things about them, but I had a bad experience which resulted in me being on a lower pay level than I was told I'd be on.

I recommend Alistair in Korean Horizons-he's very professional and efficient. Google him. He's based here in Korea. I got my first job through him. Be wary what any recruiter tells you about a school's location though. Verify it personally.

Korvia Consulting, very professional. Google them, they are great.

I used Korvia. I wouldn't say they are great (just little things like not really knowing anything about the job they recommend) but they found me a suitable job which is the main thing so I would also recommend them.

I second the suggestion of Alistair from Korean Horizons.

I came across him when looking to come back to Korea for a third year.  He was very professional, picked me up at the airport, and has answered every trivial email and question I have asked him since being here.  I am now thinking of resigning for a third year at the public school I am at.  He works and lives in Korea, which is a bonus - as many recruiters do not.

As with any recruiters - you should read your contract carefully,  and ask as many questions as you need to, until you are comfortable.

You can find Korean Horizons on facebook too.

Best wishes on finding a job.
Be the change you want to see in the world.

Ditto.  Alistair's great!  Just be aware that he mainly works with Chungnam province and the area around Busan.  If you want a job in Seoul, Korean Horizons isn't  the one.

ATC is a good one. I've already found a job by myself, but Claire has been very helpful. She's also honest and won't sugarcoat like other recruiters.  ;)

I was with Korean Connections for about 6 months...  During that time I communicated with 3 different recruiters but I was never really sure who to send questions to because someone different always responded.  I think they just work with hagwons.  I finally received a job offer and one month before I left, they unexpectedly 'cancelled my hire'.  When I tried communicate with my recruiters about why and what to do next, I received no response.

I finally started using Alistair with Korean Horizons and I highly recommend him.  He was really helpful and knowledgeable about the process.  He was quick to respond to all my emails and I'm happily working a job at a public school.  He has taken care of every single detail to the very end including transportation and a hotel when I arrived.  It helps that he speaks English!

I'll second what other other people have said. I found Alistair at Korean Horizons pretty good. I used him as a first time teacher in Korea. He organised everything perfectly as soon as I arrived in Korea i.e. pick up, accomodation, travel etc.

I'm inclined to hold back on the praise to some degree, however. I found him great at answering the simple questions, with very prompt responses. Equally, when it came to anything which was a little more tricky, I didn't really feel that I got the responses I needed sometimes.

That said, he does come across as trustworthy and I would imagine he's a saint compared to most recruiters.

I used Korean Horizons too. I like Alistair! I can see why some people think he is annoying some times though, but that's more or a personal thing. In business he is good at what he does and that's really all that matters.

I really like my current recruiter. I have interviewed with other recruiters with the same company, but the rest seem to make a big gap between them and myself. This one is really nice and good. Her name is Emily and she works at WorknPlay Consulting. I recommend starting with her and see what she can do for you. You can email her at wnpcjob at gmail.com

I also think ATC is ok. I got a job through them in September 2010, but when I reapplied, they took months to get back to me. They really aren't quick anymore.

I found Korvia also good, but they just didn't have a job that I was interested in.

I think B2Corea is also a good one. They talk with you and try to figure out what YOU want.

It's really interesting how different everyone's experiences are. I found Emily to be unpleasant, as she was really reluctant to help me because I was a gyopo. She initially offered me a rural hagwon job with low salary and ridiculous hours. I had to be really firm to get her to do anything for me.

I wasn't even interviewed by WorknPlay. I was just offered a job or two.

Wow, I am sorry to hear that. I know that people get shafted based on two things: ethnicity and gender. I have been turned down by many recruiters for being either male or white. I hear Gyopos say a lot of things about being rejected for being ethnically Korean, but I have been turned down for three jobs because I was told that white people scare Korean people. I have also been turned down over 100 times for interviews or submission of applications because I am male.

Anyways, she was very nice with me. Two of the other ones at WnPC made me feel bad and they were very unkind with their words. I guess it all depends on what the recruiters think the schools want.

I know a ex coworker of mine that used to work as an English teacher.
She is honest and quite helpful.
I know she understands NETs and their situations pretty well.
She was always good to me and very helpful.
I heard she is now recruiting for a company.
If your interested email her at chj4602@hotmail.com
Her name is Gina Jo and tell her Christy recommended her.
Only b.c I know she will be wondering how you got her email address.
Hope it works out!
