Size of schools?
« on: January 11, 2012, 08:44:21 pm »
What is the size of the school you teach at?
Your smallest school/camp?
In big city or in countryside?

My usual school has about 900 students.

My smallest school is the one I'm doing a summer camp at now. 24 students in the WHOLE school. Needless to say, its a challenge!

Gardes 1-6 15 students total. My grade 6 class is just 1. I teach at 6 different elementary schools, that's the smallest and my biggest is 74.

Wow that is pretty small! My smallest is at a camp and the students don't usually have a foreign teacher so they act a bit crazy...and sometimes very funny!

1 student?  How does that work?  Does he/she have a homeroom teacher?  I've always been curious about these tiny little schools.

My biggest school has under 100 kids, smallest about 50-60 I think. Middle School has 75. These are rural schools, of course

A friend works at a school with 8 kids. I don't see why they don't close it and have the kids go to the next closest school. None of the kids there can possibly be more than 20 minutes from a bigger school. I have at least one middle schooler who takes a boat to school so I don't understand why they keep a school of 8 kids open. Ridiculously wasteful government spending

The current school I have my camp at, is about 10 minutes from a town that has a decent elementary school with about 800 students. Most of the students I have live close to that elementary school but they still drive 10 minutes to get to this very small one with limited resources etc....strange?

I teach at one huge high school. There's only 900 students, but the school is massive. It's a technical school, so half of the school consists of computer labs, dance halls, etc.. It has the capacity to hold over 2,000 students. I teach all 30 classes, the 2nd and 3rd years alternate weeks. They range from 22-28 students. I had a few classes with only 5-6 students because the rest went off to work. They can get jobs and work before graduating at technical schools. They still graduate on time, but they don't need to attend.

Yeah, he likes it. He shares a home room with grade 5 (3 kids) so for most of his lessons he's with him. I think his parents like it with him getting 3 hours of private one on one tuition with a native speaker each week! He's a great kid, could hardly read, write or speak English when I first got him but he has improved immensely. I'd love to be able to teach some of my other low level learners in the same way.

My base school has approximately 400 students but I only teach 2nd year so I see 130 of them. Of my two visiting schools - the high school has 75 and the elementary school might have 50 kids (I only teach 3rd-6th grade which has maybe 24).

I have 30 kids at my school. I'm in a public school and this is the only school I teach at. My smallest class is 2 students, my largest is 8 students. During camp I have classes from 1 student to maybe 5 max.

I love it as I can really get to know my kids and focus my lessons to suit their abilities :)

I teach at 2 rural schools: middle and elementary. This year I expect somewhere in the neighbourhood of 70 students total covering 7 different grades. My smallest class will be 3 and my largest 21.

I like small classes and the kids are all polite and well behaved.

Teach at the largest middle school in Yongin - 1500 students.

I only teach grade 1 and 2 though - all my classes are 40 students (around 1000 total). See grade 1 once a week, grade 2 every two weeks.
My winter camp had a cap at 20 students, since I taught alone. (12 - 16 showed up)

Yongin is only 40 minutes away from Seoul, suburbs.

I like living close to Seoul, but I think it would be a lot better teaching fewer students at a smaller school (or even multiple schools).

Middle: 180
High: 340

It's just the right amount for one waeg, though March-June and Sept.-Nov. I am very, very busy. It seems that instead of finding ways to make the job easier I keep taking on more responsibilities and work. Oh well, for five months of the year it's the easiest job / holiday-going anyone could ask for.

My middle school has a little less than 300 and my high school has about 300, of which I teach 200. So that's about 500 kids total. The incoming middle school class is supposed to be tiny though, so who knows how many students I'll have next year.

Total # of students grades 1-6: 630

I teach grades 3-5 during the school year: # of students: 422
I only teach 3 classes of 5th (there are 5) once a week. I teach 3rd and 4th grade twice a week.

During camp I don't even teach my own students, I teach 1st and 2nd grade. There's 14 of those students in camp.

My school has 60 classes. Almost* 9 classes per grade for each grade. I think that works out to a little over 2,000 kids at my public elementary school. It's one of the largest in Gyeonggi.
