« on: January 30, 2012, 11:24:48 pm »
Does anyone know where I can get Cream Brulee? Restaurant or store.
If not that does anyone know where I can get Vanilla Extract and a small blow torch?

I also just had a mean hankering for creme brulee. I've never seen vanilla extract here, but it's actually simple enough to make if you are lucky enough to find vanilla bean- which sometimes can be found at Asian markets, or the odd few weeks at Home Plus. All you need to do is let the vanilla bean steep in a bit of vodka in a sealed container for a few days and voila! Homemade vanilla extract! (if these directions are wonky to you, it's really that simple. Feel free to Google if necessary!) As for the blowtorch, it might be harder to come by....

If anyone knows anything... please chime in!

Cream Brûlée?

If you're gonna get all authentic with the accents, you ought to use " Crème" instead of "Cream" ;)

Teasing aside, if one can find vanilla bean, use that.  Don't muck it up by turning it into vanilla extract.

You can order vanilla bean on Gmarket
http://item.gmarket.co.kr/detailview/Item.asp?goodscode=124597422&pos_shop_cd=SH&pos_class_cd=111111111&pos_class_kind=T&keyword_order=%b9%d9%b4%d2%b6%f3+%ba%f3&keyword_seqno=785766567&search_keyword=%b9%d9%b4%d2%b6%f3+%ba%f3

Blowtorches are available in Homeplus (and probably E-Mart) with in the tool section.

You can buy vanilla extract on www.nicemarket.net.  Look in the "baking" section.  Blowtorches are easy to find in most large stores.

Thanks,  I ended up going to Jagalchi Market, and went out exit 7.  There, I found a few different baking stores. They sold everything I needed even a cooking blow torch for 10,000 won.  So if anyone needs any out of the ordinary cooking supplies I recommend going there.

Take the number 1 subway to Jagalchi.
Here's really good directions for the stuff...and it was a 2 stop shop.

Take exit 7
Walk to the corner and turn left.
Walk about 3 blocks. Here are some land marks on your way. You'll pass Outback Steakhouse and Hagen Daaz both on your right, and Lotte Super on your left. You'll cross the pedestrian street and then a dangerous looking, crowded, chaotic intersection. Pass the first Kukje Underground Shopping Center entrance. It has a brown sign that says "Art Street" in English. Before you get to the next Kukje Underground entrance there is a small street. TURN LEFT HERE.
I saw 3 baking supply stores. The first one is "Homebaking" on your right. It's very small with lots of stuff. Mom and pop type operation. Nice people.
The next is "Baking Plaza" also on your right it's much bigger and has more stuff arranged in a tidy, organized manner.
These shops have all your baking/cooking needs...including vanilla extract, and even vanilla pods!
