Unless you are expecting a 1 year drought during your stay here, I would suggest that bringing a 'lil' rain jackey may prove useful.

hilarity ensues:
Heh… orangeman is right. On certain days it's probably better to have the kind of clothes that dry really quickly as opposed to a good jacket or umbrella because you're going to get at least partially drenched and there's no way to avoid that. On the other hand, clothing is much cheaper here so you can always buy stuff if you don't have the proper clothing.
Daelim:
In monsoon season it pours all day long sometimes... a light rainjacket is great and I even sometimes wear waterproof trousers aswell!

Koreans call it "jangma" (as you probably already know)
which is just a long rainy season. not quite a monsoon.
hokeypokey:
It rains, a lot but is super hot and humid. I walk 15 minutes to school and am often soaked from the humidity when it isn't raining, if you bring a rain jacket I would bring one that is light weight and vented.
The winds during the tropical storms s\in my coastal town rip my umbrellas apart.
I got a cute pair of rain boots for 15,000 won.
