Rain in Korea?

<< < (4/4)

woman-king:
As much as I actually enjoy summers here--take them any day over the deathly winter--dressing for a hot monsoon in Korea is tricky.  I'd enjoy a tropical monsoon if I was a backpacker in southeast Asia who didn't have to look decent for work every day.  Here, it's pretty tough to look sleek and halfway professional during the rainy season if you have to walk a bit to get to your school.

I'd second the rainboots suggestion (if you're around women's size 7-8 or under you can easily get shoes here, anything bigger than that and you might want want to invest in clothes from home).  Likewise, if you're a big person by Western standards you'll be even bigger by Korean, so I'd say grab a lightweight rain jacket.  Actually, a lot of Koreans wear thin plastic rain ponchos instead of proper insulated coats because again, you don't need added heat and I think they tend to be roomy enough for just about anyone.

Like others have said, cotton, linen or other fast-drying light-weight clothes are also a good investment for summer workwear here.

Instead of a jacket i'd use that money towards investing in a GOOD umbrella. It's too hot and humid during the rainy season to be wearing extra layers like a jacket. Get a good umbrella and some rain shoes/sandals/flip-flops.
