Slang and idiom expressions
« on: February 01, 2012, 10:04:33 am »
When teaching slang and idioms to my high level adult students who are basically fluent in English I use this website.

http://www.usingenglish.com/reference/idioms/

I usually write my own definition that is a little easier to understand and then put it in a sentence or in a conversational dialogue. I also have them  talk about the expressions and give examples of when they could use that expression in their everyday life to check for their understanding of the slang or idiom expression.

This is a PPT from a presentation I gave to teachers on idioms and proverbs. I found commercials and tv clips that showed the literal version of the idiom and then discussed what it means in context.

Here is a simple power point on the term "I'm beat". We discussed stress and some causes. Good topic for mondays
