actually, so long as i got  high caliber gun, with a good position and lots of ammo, I'd be perfectly happy to stay around where i live and work and take out as  many norks as i could.

And who would help you?  The US/South Korea/allies wouldn't help you.  And since you're armed, you're a combatant.  You can't get non-combatant services (like evacuation, shelter, food, supplies) from the Red Cross or other agencies.  You'd be completely on your own.

oh I think the respective militaries would help me. why wouldn' they? i'd be effectively fighting on their side.

i'm not suggesting i'd be the first to jump into some trench if something happened.
but you can bet everything you have i  wouldn't be among the all the little (well the word i want to say rhymes with riches) who'd be calling the US embassy in or streaming there in a panic if things ever got the slightest bit dicey.

Bahahaa. Whatever, dude. If you think either military would be excited about having your untrained, untested, vigilante butt around, you've been playing a little too much Call Of Duty. The reason militaries function in the first place is because they can have confidence in the training and performance of the members around them-- that everyone is on the same page and understands their role, not because they're the only dudes who like to envision themselves in war movies.

As for the embassy, I don't think they'd be interested in getting all the thousands of us on the choppers for things "getting the slightest bit dicey", so if they're shipping people out, I'm there. But you have fun getting dreaming of getting shot up for a country where a large segment of the population views you as a scourge on their land/real-life doll and sometime dictaphone.

I'm a communist! I love communism and from my perspective it's better than capitalism. In Laos at least.

Thus, if the North attacked, I'd join them. "Me commie too, me commie too."

Honestly, when Kim Jong Il died, I held my breath for about five minutes. My Korean boyfriend (finished with military service) got put on alert for recall, and I got scared at the thought of him fighting in a war. However, the anxiety settled quickly. When I realized no one else around me was even remotely worried, I put it out of my mind. I don't think about it/worry about it at all now.

This a serious issue in Korea. In America, there are Walmarts you can fortify the store using the guns available for sale and outlast the zombies. In Korea, firearms are not sold at EMart, Lotte-Mart or Home-Plus, and the locations of these stores make them harder to fortify than a stand-alone Walmart.

.... And the most worrying part of all this is that if I'm entering one of my typical Monday morning classes, I'll have absolutely no way to tell if the zombie apocalypse has already happened or not...  :(

Of course, the silver lining is that, considering that over here anything that moves is considered edible, I think we can count ourselves safe from raptors...

Are you pulling my leg?

I would be one of those littles running to the embassy.

Why am I not surprised.?

I would go Heart of Darkness on their arse, cam up, comandeer a local gimbap nara as a hq and supply base and wage my merry war on the Norkos!

No, because you come accross as feminine.  Until I read in a post today that you have a gf I always honest to god thought you were a woman.  No offense and mods, I'm just being honest, not trolling.  I have nothing against feminine people or people of any gender or gender contsruct, identity or whatever, in fact I have a few gay friends.

Just saying.

Zombie raptors 2012.  :) Home Plus is the place to go for safety.  (Garden, Lingerie and Sports Aisles.)  If the North Koreans invade riding zombie raptors then I will start to worry and complain to my coteacher.

and the worst part is that no matter how much you fortify your apt or even homeplus, someone will invariably leave the doors/windows open and the heater cranked on full. you'll never keep anyone out that way.

Hahaha truth.

The closest sanctuary for me would probably be Namsan tower. There's a restaurant at the top so that would hopefully keep us going for awhile but unless there is a secret Namsan Military Base the place isn't exactly a wellspring of munitions.

Now I do remember a military outpost stationed at the top of Inwangsan a bit further north. That might be worth a last dash for hope.

P.S. I'm talking about zombies by the way. Err, let's make that North Korean zombies so I don't get accused of going off-topic. Yeah, North Korean zombies...

There is a non-zero chance of the North doing something. The chance is still ridiculously close to zero however.

I just make sure I have a day or threes worth of canned food, propane, and bottled water. I also keep some money squirreled away (Some Won, some Yen, and some Dollars). This is part of my general emergency kit however. Nothing specifically geared towards a threat from the north, but something that will help me along should I need it.

I think us "foreigners" are more afraid of the fact that some of our countries are turning into "North Koreas".

I think we could likely win the war by offering the N. Korean soldiers an all you can eat buffet for free.

I was definitely concerned during the November 2012 bombings on the island near Incheon, but again, the situation was diffused by South Korea.

Notwithstanding the ridiculous pro-war/pro-military/pro-doomsday/video game scenario posts, I tend to think of North Korea as my friend told me before I left Canada:

"Seriously, I am more afraid of Walmart than I am afraid of North Korea".

Anytime NK pops up in the news or renew their politically meaningless military strikes (not to take anything away from those who are actually affected), I remind myself of that.  Communism isn't the enemy.  Capitalism is doing a fine job at destroying the fabric of our society!

Not worried at all.  No one stands to gain anything from a newly re-opened Korean war.  Not the south (which would lose decades of general economic progress), not the ruling class of the north (who would be hanged for war crimes when they inevitably lose the war, which even they know they would), nor China (who values stability and not sharing a border with US troops) nor the US (which can't afford another big war right now).

The status quo actually works out really well for everyone but your average NK citizen, and no one in a position of power cares enough about them to risk the consequences of rocking the boat.

And I really am putting my money where my mouth is with this opinion here.  I'm typing this from Paju; the DMZ is just a few minutes of driving from where I'm sitting.  Also, this opinion is shared pretty much completely by all my co-workers too.
