Last weekends itinerary:

Travel

KTX from Ulsan to Seoul and back
Taxis to and from Ulsan and Seoul Station (each one a minimum 20 minute drive).

Friday night:

Bar for beer, soju and anju for 4 hours
Noraebang for 90 minutes + beer
Taxi Home

Saturday:

Rent a car for the day between 5 people
GO Karting in Paju
Have Eel at supposedly the best eel restaurant in Korea (it was awesome) with xteen sidedishes and beer and soju.
Back to Seoul for drinks and a taxi home

Sunday

Pool, a few other games and 2 pints of beer,
Chongshik tradition evening meal
Snacks and beer in the evening.

Total expenditure on my partfor the weekend:

300k

Okay therre wasn't any clubbing etc, but it was a push the boat out weekend. How somebody can exceed this for a basic Saturday night confuses the hell out of me.

Oh and if I am drinking cheap alcohol my order of preference is (best to worst):

Beer
soju
stronger spirits (preferably with mixers)
wine

Expensive alcohol

wine
Spirits (without mixers)
beer
soju

average about 50k.....including a 15k taxi ride home (depending on where I goto)

I don't usually goto a club....but if it's a Gangnam club then add another 20-30k on top....not to mention the extra for any drinks (I'll limit myself to 1 if I ever goto  a 강남 club!)

If and when I go out for a Saturday evening I spend a grand total of no more than 30,000 won in a night, it goes to 40k if I go to Noraebang. This includes my share of dinner and drinks. I never ever use cabs, so I always leave before the buses stop or I stay in my neighborhood.

My nights aren't so grand anymore. I used to spend 100k discovering Korea, eating dinner, going to Western bars and such.

Dinner? I like cooking and usually meet up with people after.

But lately, I have been meeting up with my older male Korean friends who have some sort of pride that apparently will be broken if I try to pay. (?) I just have to taxi/bus back.

And lately, I'll just go to a local hof and drink soju/beer/dongdongju and having drunken conversations about life and the Truth. If we go over seven bottles of soju, thats 14000 won split among two or three people. Maybe some anju.

So with transportation, lately I've been shelling out 10 000 - 50 000?

I fear the people that only spend 30 000 won on a night out may be the same people that leave early from dinner to let the others foot the bill ;) I'm not accusing anyone here- But it is a technique I've noticed among some of my fellow expats.  150 000 is my range- but I'm one of those Go big or go home types so know it's a bit excessive.

Bus from Gangwon-do to Seoul: 14,500 won one way.
Homestay with a friend: 5,000-10,000 won at most; I usually bring some food to contribute to the family's dinnertime.
When homestay is impossible and I go to a hostel: 40,000 won at most.
Eating out: 50,000 won at max, but I also tend to eat the "foreign" food or dine fancy (not kimbap) since...well, you have options in Seoul!
Subway: 7,000 won at max.
Drinks: 10,000 won at max; I can drink a lot of soju and don't mind it that much.
Shopping: Rarely occurs now that I've settled into Korea. Sometimes I'll buy a book for my English classroom, but the schools I work at usually reimburse me.
KTX back: 12,000 won

So basically I spend a bit over 100k when I visit the big city for the weekend.

Yah, I second this.  I mean, if you're going out and having a good time in Korea, a night of boozing (including buying drinks for others) is generally in order.  Not saying it's the smartest thing to do but with friends it's just sort of par for the course.  To only spend 30,000 on a special night out generally indicates you're a cheap-@ss.  Again, there's nothing wrong with being a cheap-@ss, but you should probably just stay in and save other people from spending money on your stingy self.

On my first and only weekend here in Busan so far, I spent about 80,000 won over the course of Friday and Saturday night. I'm hoping that will go down a little as I get settled in. Good times, though!

Or I just pay my own way for 30,000 because I don't insist on expensive food and drinks and I think there's more to a night out than getting sloshed.

I agree with this. I have never stiffed friends. However, my friends and I generally don't eat expensive food, or drink that much and we almost never go to western bars or take cabs. Easy to only spend 30-40k that way. Times that by 3 or 4 ppl and you've got between 90-120k between you, and that's plenty of money to eat, drink and be merry. I'd rather spend my money on clothes or vacations or furniture. Those things last longer than one night out on the town (and I'll remember them better haha!)

I lived in The Philippines for a few years before moving here, so I came here with very little Fall and Winter clothing and not a lot of clothes to use for work. Because of that, I was spending roughly 125,000 to 150,000 a weekend buying one or two articles of clothing to prepare for winter and to use for work. I couldn't take the cold anymore and in the first week of January I bought a 170,000 down jacket. I haven't bought anything since and have been spending anywhere between 75,000 to 125,000 per weekend since.

Hah. Even if you want to eat western and get completely bombed, here you should be able to do so for 50-70k, though of course you can spend more, and easily less if you have a bit of soju before. God bless Daegu living.

So far between 20,000 and 30,000 won depending on dinner, sharing pitchers and the cab ride home.

~15,000-50,000 won

Staying near home, having a bottle of soju or two, and dinner can be quite cheap for me.  However, I live about 5,000 train ride from Daegu, so there is about 16,000 just in cab/train (cab is usually split, so about 12,000).  There, I usually spend about 10,000-20,000 on food throughout the night and 5,000-20,000 (bottle of soju or a couple cocktails).  Resulting in 30,000-50,000 in one night.

Factoring in a place to stay for the night (I usually just take the first morning train home) could add about 15,000?  So on the expensive side... 65,000.

I'm assuming these costs will likely skyrocket in Seoul and maybe Busan up to about 100,000/night.

Wow, I feel like a huge cheapskate here.  I usually spend about 10,000 on a night out with friends.  The few times I spent 15,000 I felt bad the next day for wasting even that much money.  I tend to be very anti-social at times, so that may be a factor in the equation as well.

If I didn't enjoy beer the money I could have saved up by now. I used to work with a woman who spent her weekends holed up in her room playing Starcraft. She left Korea with around $90,000 saved over the course of 4 years.
Personally, I'm sick of dealing with guaranteed hangover from Soju or shite Korean beer. And since I live in a smaller town, than means I'm usually at the Wabar spending 7,000 won on a bottle of Sam Adams. What an absolute ripoff that place is. I think an average evening there I might spend 35-42,000, but that's after playing a few hours of pool over cans of Guinness. And usually a meal at a Korean joint is factored in as well. So I'd say 70-80,000 for a Saturday sounds about right.
Even with these expenditures, I've never had a month where I didn't save heaves. But I couldn't imagine putting up with middle school students 3 days a week and not getting pissed on Friday.

for doing absolutely nothing on a weekend.. I'll spend about 100k just a meal will be 10-15 buying a few items for the house... groceries... if I go out it'll be closer to 200 and on a great weekend it'll be closer to 300-400 with transportation including taxis, trains and what not... if you're cheap stay at home- or if you are rehabbing-

There's time for fun and time to relax don't mix the two up!

I'll spend about 70,000. I only really go out once a week because I live in a rural town. Cab ride from downtown Gumi to my place runs a little under 20,000. Hell, I spend less money going to Daegu, partying till the morning and just taking the KTX back. If I had the energy to stay up until 6am then that's all I'd ever do.
