Download and upload speeds for LTE
« on: April 11, 2013, 05:09:13 PM »
I have a LTE contract with KT and was wondering what download and upload speeds I should be getting? I tested mine and it is pretty much the same as it was as when I was on 3G.

Apologies to mods if this in in the wrong place.

I find that it is more stable than 3g. I have been on LTE for a couple months now. Other than the phone being better I really don't see a need for moving to LTE. I enjoy streaming stuff on my phone but with LTE unless you want to pay alot of money you will want to do that with wifi anyway. I think that is where LTE is much better but as I said if you want to stream a lot of things without wifi then expect to have a very large phone bill.

I find the 3G connection is better for some reason.  When on a call with LTE, I often have a very weird connection.  I can hear an 'echo' and usually the person on the other end can't hear me at all.  I think this must be when I'm on the edge of the LTE network because if I walk a little further I'll connect to 3G and then the phone works fine.  I've also had a lot of dropped calls when I use LTE.  Maybe it's just my area but I'm really disappointed with it as I'm paying more and have a data limit.  I'm using SK for what it's worth.  My wife told me LG has the best LTE service in Korea so maybe that makes a difference.

I am on LG so that may be why. I agree with you on the data limit. I sure do miss my unlimited data.

Depending on the area and time of day, the speeds can vary.  LTE coverage is not nation wide and there will be some areas with only 3G.  You might be getting 3G speeds because LTE might not be available in that area.  Having that said, the fastest LTE networks in order are LG > KT > SK.

LG has the fastest LTE network, but coverage for all carriers is not nationwide.  KT's LTE is also faster than SK, but I like SK because their calls are reliable.  Most calls are still made over 3G nowadays.

SK's 3G network is the most reliable and the fastest of the 3 carriers.  So if you're in an area that has no LTE, you're going to fall back onto 3G anyway.  Until LG and KT have nationwide coverage for LTE, I'm going to stick with SK.

SK for all its reliability is however the most expensive of the 3 carriers.  You get LESS minutes and LESS data compared to the other carriers.  That's also another thing to consider.  But, SK now has FREE mobile to mobile, in-network calling and SK accounts for 50% of all mobile subscribers in Korea.
