Keep getting banned from eslcafe

The mods there fascinate me. I'd love to see a photo of one of them.

Bluelake / Dimitris is apparently an older native American gentleman and a Korea lifer with a Kwife and adult son here. His son's in a minor band and I've seen a video. His son looks completely Korean at least.

I also heard an interview with Bluelake and he sounded like a completely different character from his mod-sock ... that is to say a really and interesting nice guy. But, I could see where the apologist / don't-mock-Korea side of him could pop up.

If someone really wanted to cause trouble they'd use one of the mod's names. That said, name identity theft does happen. Also, sometimes two people use the same name. There's a guy who goes by 유범석 (in Hangeul) on a Thai expat forum, of all places.

1. My name means stone tiger and I picked 'yu' as a random family name. No seriously it was the most ridiculous real Korean name I'd ever heard of.

2. It was a drawing a student made of me.

I find that together they form a whole significantly more irritating than the sum of their already irritating parts. Actually, pretty much all flash avatars annoy me… it's like hearing the same joke over and over and the guy telling it to you doesn't get that humor doesn't work that way.

several of the mods aren't even the korea or even mod much anymore, kalguksi last time i heard was in saigon and i think is more involved in the international forums, canuckistan doesn't even mod much anymore, she's in the us married to an army officer.

koharski, ds, and enrico are absolute jerks if you ask me and are the only ones who do any modding.

why people would mod there for free while sperling makes a ton of cash off the site is beyond me

I've never understood that as well. They are Sperling's slaves. He makes the money while they spend all their short time on this earth "moderating" a board that, outside of a few ESLers, nobody even knows exists. These are the kind of people that big corporations just love.

I very rarely post on Dave's, but I have to say, I have had some good laughs reading some of the threads!  Brilliant what some folk post on the internet!  :D

Dave's has been flushing itself straight down the toilet for years.  Basically they overreacted to a severe troll or two and now simply ban indiscriminately on the off chance it's one of them.  By driving away anyone even remotely controversial they've neutered all discussion and driven away anyone intelligent enough to see that the place is now little more than a repository of outdated information about Korea and a bunch of idiots posting away the same old "Top Ten reasons I Like Korea" drivel.
