Living in Pocheon
« on: February 20, 2012, 05:34:22 PM »
Does anyone here live in Pocheon?  I'm not much
of a rural person, but I do like outdoorsy things
sometimes.   I'm concerned about being somewhere with an Emart or Homeplus since I love to cook. I also don't drink or care about bars/clubs.  Is there a post office and a KB bank? Are there taxis
or only buses?  I think I could be fine in Pocheon as long as I can get to Uijeoungbu on weekdays and Seoul some weekends.  Is it really a 30 minute bus ride to Uijeoungbu? And 1 hour to Seoul? Will I have an apartment with good ondol and not backwards kerosene heating? I've heard about people walking in the cold to get cans of kerosene for their boiler.  Will I have hot water for showers?  Are the people too redneck style ?  I hate my small southern hometown in the US... But at least this is a public school.

Oh, and what about Internet? Is it good up there
and will my iPhone work up there?  I couldn't care less about TV, but I need my Internet and iPhone, hot water and good ondol...because I'm always cold.

I knew someone who lived in Pocheon for a while and just came to Uijeongbu for the post office, bank, etc. I think it's less than half and hour by bus though. There's a Homeplus to the north and a few Lotte Marts on either end of Uijeongbu too.

Everything you'd need is pretty much right by Uijeongbu subway station (which has just been renovated and is getting a Shinsegae department store in a few months). You'd be going there on their way to Seoul anyway.

I'm sure that your apartment will have ondol and all the amenities you're used to by now.  ;)
