2010 GRADE 3 CHAPTER 16 : MAY I COME IN

Hey guys. I totally stole the Big Bad Wolf powerpoint that someone posted, used it as a template, and created my own story for this lesson: Little Red Riding Hood. I used the key expressions, and I also color coated most of the dialog. I did that because my class is divided into groups. Each group read the parts of either the mother, the wolf, or Little Red Riding Hood. They had fun with it, so I thought I'd share.

  I'm thinking about a variation on "Mother May I?"  I'm still brainstorming on it, but it might just be a reverse Simon Says game.  Let one student be "Mother" and the other students ask "Mother (or Father if it's a boy), may I jump?"  And "Mother" answers "Yes you may" or "No you may not."  And rotate out "mother" every 3 or so turns.

I did something like this.  I called it "teacher may I?"  Students asked me, "may I ________?"  I answered with "yes" "okay" "sure" or "no."  Students mainly used the expressions, "may I go outside?" "may I come in?" "may I stand up?" "may I sit down?" and "may I try?"  To "go outside" students stood behind their chairs.  To "come in" students went under their desks.  I passed out cloth balls and dice to each table and put them between two students, so there was one less ball than the total number of students at each table.  I told my students that "may I try" meant "may I try a ball game?"  To "try" students raced to grab the balls.  This adds some competition, so it is an important part of the game. 

For the first five minutes or so, my co-teacher told the class what to ask me, then the class would chant the request to me (I didn't do this in my first class, and it was a disaster).  When students were comfortable enough that they started shouting out requests to me, then I called on students to give me requests.

Thanks to Masterdirector for The Good Wolf and 3 pigs.  I added some sound and running pigs. 

I put the words at the top of the screen only because my students can't see the bottom of the screen using our projection system.

Also, I revamped an intro ppt with pictures from the book and Korean translations. I added a slide showing the differences between 'may' and 'can'.
