Short Animations
« on: March 05, 2012, 01:16:28 PM »
NOTE:  I'll try to keep adding links as I find them.  So, anything under "Ninja Love Story" is a new addition.

I've been compiling a library of short animations (zero to minimal dialogue) to use in my classes this semester.  They can be used for filling time or as part of a lesson.

Of course they're hundreds or thousands more availabe on Youtube.
If you don't have internet available in your class, I'd suggest using Free Youtube Downloader to download the videos.

If you have any other short videos, feel free to share.  I can always use more.

I didn't include For the Birds or Burn-E, since the links I have no longer work.
I would attach For the Birds, but it's an mp4 video.  I'll attach Burn-E if I ever find a working linkFound a working link for Burn-E, but am not sure how long it'll be available.  ...copyright issues and all.

Here's a website and a program that I use to download the videos.  The link for the program doesn't automatically bring up a pop-up to download it.  So, fear not!  No viruses are lurking.

Website to download Vimeo (and other video hosting websites') videos:  http://savevideo.me/?lang=en

Program I use to download Youtube videos:  http://download.cnet.com/Free-YouTube-Downloader/3000-2071_4-75219434.html

Enjoy!   :D

How did I miss this thread?  I'm glad the search feature found this, though it doesn't actually mention the search term I was looking for at all.  Thanks for doing all the prior searching and research...! Wow, I can't wait to check these out and start brainstorming activities for them.

Ok I am a first time teacher and not what you would call a professional but I really want to start doing better lessons for the kids and I like the links that ye have put up. I was just wondering if anybody could advise me on the best way to go about making a lesson plan for a short animation. E.g how do you capture screen shots like in the work sheet for alarm? I need what ever help ya can fling my way!!!

- just full play the video at full screen and press the 'print screen' button on your keyboard, ctrl+V into ppt and re-size as needed. the lesson above lasted about 25mins, so I would advise finding another activity for the other half of the lesson.

@ DamienWyldeRyan

Use something like youtubedownloader to download the video.

Use VLC player to play the video.
Press pause on the image you want.
Click on "Video" at the top of the screen.
Click on "Snapshot." It'll save the image you've paused as a jpg or png.
Before you do this, you can decide where you want to save the image and so on by clicking on "tools" and then "prefrences" followed by "video."

You can get youtubedownloader and VLC player at cnet.com.
Make sure you get the English version.

This is an amazing list, but so many embedded videos are absolute murder on my ancient work computer. Would anyone object if I created a thread that lists all these videos as links rather than embedded vids?

I'm so glad I found this! I'm always looking to add to my short video collection!

I have a couple recommendations:

Just for Laughs TV:
https://www.youtube.com/user/JustForLaughsTV/videos?view=0

This is a comedy show produced in Canada (Quebec I believe). No words spoken at anytime so easy to understand and my kids find it hilarious! There is a kids version which may be safer for those of you on the Elementary level; I accidentally played a video with a man clad on in his underwear that kind of scandalized my Grade 4 girls.

Music Videos featuring OK Go:
https://www.youtube.com/artist/ok-go/videos

The two favorites are the "White Knuckles" and "This Too Shall Pass" videos. Watch them and you''ll see why. What's most fascinating is that the videos are shot without any cuts - just one long continuous shot. When my CT told the students, they were very impressed.

Not sure if this was mentioned, but I recommend Keep Vid for downloading videos off YouTube. http://keepvid.com/

This is handy for me because the internet in my classroom can lag and I'm constantly fighting to turn off off the advertising that pops up with each vid. I can also download the higher quality version of these vids so it looks nice on the big screen in my room. I've also given copies of these vids to my CTs so they can use them in their after school programs if needed. And there's nothing wrong with showing some of these vids to students multiple times since they seem to enjoy them so much.

At the moment, I'm trying to find a way to incorporate some of the videos with lessons so they get some English out of it and not just entertainment.

That Just For Laughs stuff is so funny. Thanks for that.

Here are a couple of other links:

http://storybird.com/

The first provides free lesson plans built around short videos.

The second provides a lot of free pictures useful for storytelling.

Cheers.
