More often than not on these types of forums, people prefer to find faults with people instead of help them.

I completely agree with this comment. Recently this site has become a feeding ground for the know-it-alls of Korea to keep putting their negative comments and un-helpful criticisms on absolutely everything. I can only assume it is due to the new ruling that people must make at least 5 posts to be able to download lesson plans. Thus, these lazy people would rather pick at percieved errors and publicly bash the authors in a completely negative and patronising way so that they can fill their quota of 5 posts instead of actually uploading 5 useful lesson plans/materials.

And to this quote: '1-Yes Wikipedia is a very accurate source of information alright, all Universities across the world recommend it '. Another sweeping statement. I have heard of many Universities (mine included) advising students to avoid  Wikipedia as it often has incorrect or out of date information.

FFS jsemk, did you ever hear of sarcasm? Of course universities will tell you to avoid it, that's the point I was trying to make when people were referencing wikipedia in trying to say that Ireland was part of the British Isles ::)

This is hilarious.

I did the lesson on 'the 7 major English speaking countries' which started off a huuuge debate as to whether they were the main countries and how many people from each country spoke English etc etc. I also made the mistake of putting the St Patrick's flag as the Irish one. The simple reason.... I went on to google, searched flag of northern Ireland and then clicked on the flag I liked lol.

Chillax people.

Exactly the problem. That would be similar to if I - without any knowledge of American history - did a google search for 'old USA flag', thought the Confederate flag looked nice, stuck it on my powerpoint and taught 540 Korean high schoolers that the Confederate flag was the old flag of the USA. It's wrong. And irresponsible teaching.

The 'St. Patrick's Flag' was never used in Ireland until the Act of Union in 1801. It was adopted by a British controlled 'Irish Parliament' under British rule, so to say that it was the old representative flag of Ireland is incorrect (unless you are talking of people who identified with British controlled Ireland at the time, which was a tiny minority).

I did think this was a very good way to explain the Union flag though, apart from saying the St. Patrick's Flag is the flag of Ireland. That's what I took issue with. Kudos to the original poster though, as long as the corrected ppt is backed up with clear explanations, I don't think the students would be confused.

I tried this lesson today and it was pretty good, but I had to make a few changes. The map worksheet was nice, but the students finished it really quickly, so I made a fill-in-the-blanks and put it on the other side of the page. Also, the slide show had too many pictures and it dragged on for a big, so I turned it into a game with the "Lucky Wheel" template. I also threw in some other questions to make it more educational.

Would you mind uploading these new things that you did so we can all have a look? The changes you made sound interesting. I have taught this lesson for two years now and something new to spice it up would be very welcome!
