Hi All - Really glad i found waygook - looks like it will be an immense help w/ lesson planning for my classes at a girls middle school in Seongnam si  :) Was a Peace Corps volunteer in the Philippines so hopefully i can contribute some of my own materials from that after i get a handle on teaching here. Any other RPCVs out there? Just arrived at the beginning of the school year and don't really know anyone yet. What's the best way to make friends? If anyone has any advice, suggestion, or wants to help me discover Seongnam, please reply  ;D Haven't really taught formal English before - since my background is mainly social work and NGOs. Start my first real teaching day on Monday (pretty much observed and introduced myself this whole first week * love the questions middle school girls ask when given free reign - slightly awesome experience) and admit - i'm a little nervous that they wouldn't understand me or i'll talk too fast or something. Anyway, originally from Wisconsin USA (and as soon as i typed that - yes- i totally missed the micro-brews and cheese - gotta uphold the "dairy queen" stereotype). haha.

Hi Stef, I too luckily discovered waygook recently and I am s glad that I did. What an amazing coincidence. I too teach at a girls' middle school in Seongnam!! If you need help or any advice you can chat me up for it anytime. Glad to help a fellow Seongnamite. I been here for almost 4 years in Seongam by the way.

That's awesome Koreanstar - you must like middle school and Seongnam if you've been here 4 years. The students are pretty awesome - but i am surprised that none of the teachers have offered to show me anything outside of school - ie - how to get around the city or good/fun places to go. They've got families though and seem busy/stressed with the beginning of school. Anyway - any suggestions on how to get oriented to this new city? Good places to eat, relax, etc? Thanks!

Hi!
I'm teaching at a high school in seongnam..this is my second year in Korea, but I'm noticing that working for a public school makes it much harder to meet friends since everyone does have families and everything. I just found waygook too and I think it's gonna help a lot! I taught kindergarten last year so I didn't have to plan my own lessons. Anyway, I hope we can be friends!

Hi! My name is Na Ly. I saw  thatyou were looking for a new friend in Seongnam. I don't live in the area, but I find myself going into the city on the weekends. I currently live in Ildong and teach at Ildong Middle School. The kids at my school are out of control! No discipline of any sort. Anyways, none of my coteachers has been able to show me around, so I find myself out about and exploring on my own! It's been an interesting experience. I hope we can be friends!
