Does anyone work at a JeongSang Hakwon?
If yes, what are your experiences there?
So far mine has been aweful. They overwork you.
And while most the teachers working there are nice, parent counseling has been very traumatic for me. Korean parents are ridiculous.

Do you work at one of the Franchise ones?
I work for one of the main branches and so far there is not a lot to complain about compared to other schools that I have heard about. I have heard that some of the franchise ones can be different as they are all owner/operator so not moderated by head office.  That means its the owner or managers that run it how they see fit - some could be good, some not so just the same as any Hagwon.

bump...

i've just started work at JLS. i think it's a main branch but no problems so far.

the materials are a little strange, i feel a bit like the kids are doing the work and teaching themselves and i'm just trying to practice their comprehension and conversation skills. did the same book 3 times today...

any advice you can give kiwigirl? focus the classes on mostly speaking activities and group work?

Hi fezmond

Welcome to JLS, yeah just try and squeeze as much speaking as you can in.  They like the group work as it maximizes the speaking time, they should all be speaking English to each other.  It can be a bit hard sometimes, I have to go around and prompt them a lot ie. Sally why don't you ask Billy what his answer is, Billy why don't you tell Sally why you think that.  You can try get through the book as quick as you can and then do an activity at the end.

And yes it can get repetitive - sometimes you go straight from one class into the next one and teach the exact same topic again.
