No Dropbox? No problem! Introducing, SpiderOak -
keirdre:
Google Drive has now been released, for those who like to use Google Docs / sync their files. Just login to Google Docs (recently renamed Google Drive) and download the Google Drive installer.
GoCyclones:
Dropbox wants very badly to share photos from any USB key that gets plugged in. It is now starting to creep me out. I hope it goes away.
Our department uses Dropbox to share files. The final unit tests and book final were on it for all teachers to share. Someone installed and used it on a public student computer... And left it there. Another teacher happened to see it installed and noticed what happened. No one admitted doing it and we have no idea how long it had been there.

Can't blame Dropbox for bad user decisions :P
That said- regarding photo imports, you can change the autoplay settings for Dropbox by going into Dropbox's preferences and clicking the button there about importing photos from removable media. (Or just change autoplay settings in Control Panel yourself if you prefer).
Wretchard:
I have never used dropbox but I have started using Google Drive. Dunno if it is the same.

Pretty much the same, except the Google Drive app is basically a syncing add-on for the online office suite that is Google Docs. Serves the same function.
