Twilight (Adult or Advanced) - Vocabulary by Page
« on: October 20, 2011, 01:07:49 PM »
Hey friends -

My adult class loves watching movies and reading the scripts, so last semester we watched "Twilight" (which they loved) and read the script. Now, we've decided to read the first book of the series too (which is a huge undertaking, by the way).

We are still studying the book and will continue over the next few months, but I figured I would post resources online to help anyone who might want to do the same thing. I will add more as we continue.

Vocabulary
Three resources are posted below.
1. My vocabulary sheets - I go through page by page and pick out words that I think might be challenging. I write a definition or use dictionary.com, and then use Google Translate for as many of the words as I can (they aren't always correct, so tell your students that, but it helps them a lot and at least gets them in the right realm of thinking)
2. Online Resource (PDF) - My coworker found a spreadsheet of vocabulary with the word, pronunciation, Korean translation, and the sentence it is used in. Its not as complete as my vocab. sheets but might have a few words that I didn't include.
3. Book - One of my students found a great book that has Twilight vocab by chapter, with some comprehension questions. Its also not as complete as my vocab sheets, but in some ways is better too. You can find it here, or  on Kyobo or another Korean search engine. Its 8 000 KRW, and the ISBN is 978-89-5605-319-6.

You can also find Chapter Summaries (if that is beneficial to your students) on www.thebestnotes.com.

Some sections of the book are missing vocabulary sheets (the beginning and mid chapter 2-3), but I am posting the resources as is. We were testing out different methods at the start, so I don't have the beginning complete. I will continue posting the vocabulary sheets as you see below. If you want to re-post with edits, feel free.

Hope this helps some of you!

Have you or anyone on the board tried any other scripts and movies?

This sounds like an AMAZING idea! I might look into something like this for my students if/when they finally give me my afterschool hours.

I've been wanting to do something like this for ages, and my students love Twilight, so it may be a great place to start.

Thanks so much!

OP, can you give the name of the book that has the Twilight Vocab please. Doing a google search with the ISBN number, and clicking your link both provided nothing. According to several sites, that ISBN is not attached to any book... :(

"It's better to have tried and failed, than never to have tried at all!"
Teach this to your students... they'll thank you for it later!
