Do you need Visa for Thailand?

Hi Everyone;

   Just thought I better ask, do you need a visa to travel to Thailand?  I know you need a vistor's visa for China and I just heard also for Vietnam.  So I thought you didn't need one for Thailand but thought I better check!

I was there a few years ago and remember something about an exit tax.  I think it was around 25 USD.

I've never paid an exit tax in Thailand, so maybe they changed it a while back.

I've been to Thailand 6 times and never paid an exit tax, maybe it depends on your passport, I used an Irish one a few times and a British one the other times
have a nice holiday!!

I think you get one for free when you enter (on most passports anyway)

if you enter via an airport it will be vaild for 30 days, if you enter over land it will be vaild for 15 days

No longer do you need to pay exit tax.

I think generally you're allowed to enter Thailand for a period of 30 days without a visa. I got in with my SA passport for just over 2 weeks and didn't require one.

Straight from US Embassy site:

ENTRY/EXIT REQUIREMENTS: If you are a U.S. citizen tourist staying for fewer than 30 days, you do not require a visa, but your passport must have at least six months validity remaining. You may be asked to show an onward/return ticket. If you enter Thailand by air without a visa, you are allowed to stay in Thailand for 30 days per visit. If you enter Thailand by land without a visa, you are allowed to stay in Thailand for 15 days per visit. If you enter Thailand without a visa, you cannot remain in Thailand for more than 90 days during any six-month period, counting from the date of first entry. After 90 days, you must apply for a new visa at a Thai embassy outside of the country. You must pay a Passenger Service Charge in Thai baht when you departi from any of Thailand's international airports. This charge is now included in airline ticket prices at Bangkok's main airport, Suvarnabhumi International Airport.

It depends on your passport. You might need to get a landing visa, but for most countries you can enter Thailand as a tourist for a certain amount of time (can't remember if it's 30 days or 3 months)

For China most countries will have to get a visa in advance from a travel agent. South Africans can get a landing visa when they get to the airport in China.
