부대찌개 I second boodah jjigae it's awesome on cold nights. It's known as army jjigae because it's basically everything mixed into one dish. Veggies and processed meats (spam and hot dogs). I guess the soldiers started making it on the battle field with whatever they had to throw into a pot.
I love that stuff! My co-teacher told me a different story though, she told me that American soldiers are soooo wasteful compared to Koreans, so Koreans would raid their trash bins and make soup out of all the processed meats they threw away.

I don't impose to correct you, as this is second hand knowledge, I just thought I'd share another story of it.

Kamchatang and Haejangguk are quite possibly my favourite Korean foods.
Unfortunately, my local Kimbap shacks don't sell these.
But there's a brilliant 24 hours franchise only 2 minutes from apartment that does  :D

Doenjang jjigae- Korean version of miso soup! Apparently it's a bit of an acquired taste.
In winter they often serve another type of 'dried' vege soup...and it's delicious.
I don't have hangul on my comp at home but romanised it's- Shi-rae-gi-Gu.

Also..Mandu Ramyun!

Plain ol' 돈까스 is the shot. Also, I'm not sure if all kimbap places sell it but galbitang is great. It's basically noodles, veggies and a few slices of galbi (still on the bone!) and it's not spicy. Great for cold days!

What about om rice? I love that stuff. It's a bunch of fried rice with vegetables and ham wrapped in a fried egg and topped with some sort of delicious brown deliciousness. I just ate lunch, but I could eat that now.

I'm new in Korea, and like the Kimbap Nara's (mostly because of the cheap price!!!) But, I almost always get the Dolsot Bibimbap... So, what does everyone order??? What should I try?

오징어 덮밥/o-jing-eo deop bap!  It's pieces of squid and vegetables (carrots, onions, cabbage, green onions, zucchini etc) in spicy sauce with rice on the side.  Some places do it better than others.  When done right, it's nice and spicy, just a tiny bit sweet, with a sauce of nice consistency.  If you have a bad experience, try it at another place.

can't do the squid...but the bulgogi deop bap is to die for! First 6 months here only ate the tuna kimbab because that was the only thing I could understand on the menu...

육계장 / yuk-gye-jang: it's a red, spicy soup. it has a lot of veggies in it, and some strips of beef. comes with rice. love it!

떡만두국 / ddeok mandu gook: it's a light mandu (dumpling) soup with some veggies and egg. the ddeok (rice cake slices) is optional, because just mandu gook is available too. it's not spicy.

and my usual, chamchi (tuna) kimbap.

뚝배기 불고기 / ddukbaegi bulgogi ... or 뚝불 for short. It's a bulgogi soup served with rice and a few vegies.
김치 찌개 / kimchi jjigae. A kimchi stew. Any of the jjigaes are pretty good.

Seconding the Chamchi gimbap (참치 긴밥)  Watch your pronunciation, there's a very similar Korean word that is fairly profane (make sure you make a hard 'ch' sound and not a 'j' sound).

I love that with a plate of ddeokbokki (떡볶이), especially as a late night snack after some drinks.  Alternate between the gimbap and ddeokbokki or dip the gimbap in the ddeokbokki sauce.  mmm...

I can second Yuk Gae Jang! That stuff is SOUPer delicious! (sorry) I am also a fan of Kim Chi Beokembop. It is supposedly healthier than regular fried rice because they use kim chi juice and less oil. Don't know how true that is but it is delicious.

1. chamchi dolsot bap (tuna-  don`t think it`s on that menu posted but nevertheless...)

2. bulgogi dup bap...or Ddokbaegi bulgogi

3. sundubu jigae / dwenjang jigae......but not a big fan of the stone bowl soups as I never fail to burn my mouth/tongue, every time!
