Connecting Flights
« on: January 09, 2011, 07:38:31 PM »
I have a connecting flight in Hong Kong going to South Africa.  I have about an hour between arriving at HK and departure.

Does anyone know how long it takes on average to pass Immigration/Customs?

Any awesome advice, would be greatly appreciated  :P

an hour?  It takes you at least 18 minutes to get to kowloon and 24 to hong kong central station on the airport express...  double for roundtrip.... which is $200HKD.. you need to take into account waiting for the train too... also the immigration procedures you will have to go through.   I just went to hong kong last week... its def not enough time to make it downtown and back.

downtown? i dont understand?

I think you're asking is it enough time to make your flight and yes it is. But other people think you're asking if it's enough time to do something in Hong Kong and then make it back to your flight. This is one of those misunderstandings I hear about so much in sitcoms.

You don't need to go through immigration or customs when connecting to another flight, unless you leave the airport, and in an hour... I don't think you will be doing such.

So a Korean travel agent advised me not to connect in Dubai because of the long lay-overs... (10-24 hours!) and the fact that I'd need a tourist visa for staying that long irrespective of whether I leave the airport or not. Does anyone know if this is true? I'm not connecting in Dubai but just wanted to know for future flights... I hate applying for visas especially since all embassies and consulates are in Seoul and I'm not.

Olga I also had one hour in Hong Kong but then I changed the flight to a later one, so now I have 5 hours to arrive and depart.

Goodluck and soak up that African sun :)
