Prepaid Phones through KorVia
« on: April 10, 2012, 10:59:25 AM »
Has anyone had trouble recharging credit onto their prepaid phones provided by KorVia? I went to 10 different Mini Marts, GS25, C Space, and 7-Eleven and no one seemed to know what I was asking for. I even printed out the directions and showed them, but no one seemed to know what it was. Is it strictly a Seoul thing?

You have to go to a SK store. Not all stores can do it, only the ones that have the ladies on orange uniforms. If it's just one or two jokers sitting behind the counter walk away because they are only salesmen.

The phone I got from KorVia was broken and barely worked-- not even my co-teachers could figure out what to do with it!  I bought my own phone as soon as I could-- for the third-nicest phone in the store, I only have to pay 50,000 won a month, phone price included.  Seriously cheap (my phone plan at home was over $85/month) and there were even cheaper phones there as well (there was another phone that was only 30,000 won) if the prepaid phone doesn't work out!  Best of luck to you!  I hope you can figure it out easily!  :D

I had the same trouble as you.

I have recharged twice now, the first time I had to get a native speaker to do it for me (Still took 30 minutes to figure out). I went to about 5 stores.

The second time took about 10 visits of failed tries. I took a picture of the instructions and luckily the lady got what I wanted.

The phone plan is really good for calling home, a shame about how terrible it is to recharge.

I only recharged mine once before I got a contract phone, but you should be able to recharge it by calling *11 and paying by credit card.  There's an English option.

Otherwise, go to a T-World main store to do it.  I'm pretty sure it has to be the main store in  your town/city, not a branch office.

There's apparently a third way to do it by wiring money from your Korea account, as well.  Here's the info:

Thanks everyone!! I appreciate all your advice!! I was only able to recharge once in Seoul and I got a native speaker to help me out. I'll definitely try to recharge by calling *11! Thanks again!!!  :)
