My school now blocks Craigslist. Does yours?
« on: April 17, 2012, 03:11:06 PM »
It must have only happened in the past month or so, but I get the pink warning screen when I try to visit craigslist for Seoul or for anywhere.

How about the rest of you?

Yup. It's been blocked for a while here.

Blocked here in Gangwon-do as well. Has been since I got here.

Just google "craigslist seoul" and you'll get a simplified version of it.

Yeah. You can just surf anonymously, though. If the words "surf anonymously" are blocked by your school just to go google.es and type "navegación anónima".

My school is in the Gyeongsamnam-Do province and just recently blocked Dropbox.com (GRRR) and Youtube.

All I have to do, however, is search for anything in Google and tack on the name of the site from which I want to search, and click the link. So really, it's only the front page that's blocked. Still a pain and cumbersome to work out (for dropbox anyway), but don't give up.

Use hotspot shield and you can get around the blocking.

Last summer my school started blocking TalkToMeinKorean.com

I still can't believe it!

I can access the front page, but get a "blocked website" notice anytime I click on the PDFs or MP3 to listen to.

I'm in Chungnam, and my school blocks Craigslist too (there are a whole bunch of other things it blocks too, surprisingly Facebook isn't one of them). Ebay's fine, Gmarket's fine...but most file-sharing sites are also blocked.   ::)

you can use hidemyass.com or ninjacloak.com and access most blocked sites.  i wouldn't enter any CC info or use any passwords while using the browser though.

I would love to know the reasoning behind why certain sites are blocked. I'm surprised the admins have even heard of avclub.com or boing boing. If it was me, I would just block Facebook and consider it a job well done.

Why block actual useful stuff like Dropbox but leave time drains like Facebook up?

Blocked here at my school too.  I get it though.  Lots of weird stuff happens on craiglist.

Yeah, my school blocks CL but the links to CL from google work fine. Like people said, seems like only the front page is blocked which is a bit strange that they would only choose to block that....
My VPN is also a bit finicky. It will connect and everything, but after a few minutes of surfing, my download rate drops to zero.

Craigslist doesn't work for me when I google search it. HOWEVER, if you have a smartphone you can download the free Craigslist app and use it that way! So...problem solved...at least for people with iPhones!
