Here are some stuff I found on the internet. Might be good for 6th graders/ middle school kids.

Here is my lesson plan for my 3rd and 4th graders.  Just follow along to the ppt. If you notice anything that needs to be changed/ could be better, please let me know.

Valentine's Day: Ideas for All Levels
« Reply #4 on: January 20, 2011, 08:50:06 am »
Does anyone else have to teach for 3 or 4 days between February 7-10? I made this Valentine's day lesson last year to fill that awkward gap.

I start with the PPT, which teaches the students a little about Valentine's Day in North America. I tried to highlight some of the differences with Korea (i.e. men and women exchange gifts, not just women give candy). The PPT pre-teaches the dual meaning of "stinks" to the kids before they listen to the song "Love Stinks." The students listen and fill in the missing words on the worksheet (attached), then write three things that they think stink (i.e. Homework stinks!).

Finally, I made a Valentine's Day worksheet with various activities to fill the rest of the class time. One activity asks the students to rate the importance of different characteristics in a boyfriend/girlfriend (funny/ intelligent/ responsible/ good looking/ kind). My kids love giving their opinion. It was interesting to see all the different ways students ranked these characteristics. There's a word search on the back.

I put these worksheets up on ESL Printables, but you waygooks get this for free  8)

Happy Valentine's Day!  <3  :-*

Thanks!  Love the worksheet...hopefully my kids do as well. They're a tough crowd and they'll be even tougher during that awkward week, I imagine.

I'm thinking about including a little thing on mixtapes* in my Valentine's lesson.  Does anyone know if Korean kids do this already?  At any rate, even if they're already familiar with the concept, I think it might be a fun lesson and a good addition to this slightly untraditional Valentine's lesson!

* I know nobody does tapes or even CDs anymore!  but "mix mp3 list" just sounds so awkward :)

This is an amazing powerpoint!

You may want to show the short film, Struck, to help convey the idea of cupid (in modern day life).

Here's the website (it has the short film posted there):

It's a great short to see regardless of whether you are using it or not.

Thank you to the OP for the ideas and song sheet.  Here's some more Valentines Day stuff I quickly put together for a 6th grade lesson on Monday. It's aimed at lower level kids than the OP. It's a bit of a rush job so please check it for errors if you decide to use it!

Powerpoint to teach vocab and customs, wordsearch, rhymes, annagrams and crossword pinched and adapted from boggles to fill in any extra time. I'll finish the lesson with the kids making cards to put in a postbox  (a cardboard box covered in red wrapping paper, classy all the way!) If you want to make the cards shown in the ppt they are at http://www.enchantedlearning.com/crafts/valentine/ and http://www.vintageimagecraft.com/card-heart.html

Valentine's Lesson
« Reply #17 on: February 07, 2011, 08:41:26 am »
Weeks and weeks of desk warming inspired me to make my own Valentine's Day Lesson

I made it for Middle School kids but you could adapt the activities to suit other levels.

I'm using this lesson in the time between winter vacation and spring break so I don't expect students to be super pumped to actually learn anything so I tried to make it as fun as possible and for the activities to be easy.

There's a Valentine's PPT, a worksheet for "What is love", an activity to write their own Roses are Red poem, and a fill in the gap worksheet for the Moulin Rouge love song.

I also used the following videos:

1. To introduce the topic of love
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnUwU8gE64o

2. For the fill in the gap exercise

Oh, I like doing a love stinks presentation.  I teach high school (very low-level kids) and I'm pretty sure like two of them have a girlfriend.

Thanks so much!
