this is true, but to a far lesser extent than in the u.s. one advantage education reformists have here is that parents are to a greater degree very much involved in their childrens' education, although the definition of involvement certainly varies depending on the person. generally speaking, if you can get parents on board with a particular reform strategy, you could make real progress here.

that was also my experience as a youth, but bullying here is very much a group-affair. what we have on our hands isn't the case of the dude with the beach-sized forehead putting pipsqueaks in headlocks. iljin operate in what most people would term 'gangs,' though that seems to be a dirty word here

You are correct, but everything here is a group affair, individuality of thought or deed is not done or appreciated for the most part.

However, how do you deal with a group, especially a nasty group? You cut the head off the dragon...metaphorically speaking. Every group has a leader, take him or her out and the rest of the group will usually crumble. Especially if the leader is taken out publicly and the nasty individual is humiliated! And, I do not think humiliating a bully in public is bad for anyone other than them.

public humiliation, however delightfully medieval, would never pass the laugh test at the MoE. how about having the parent(s) brought to the table and spelling the problems out letter by letter? just as most bullies here don't even think they're bullying, some bullies' parents, whether they're involved in their child's education or not, aren't even aware that their kid is a monster. i wouldn't expect all of the parents to take corrective action, but this being a group society, there would be pressure for them to do so.

I would say I'm shocked, but that would be a lie.

I've been here long enough to read about nearly 1000 suicides in this country by students from bullying in some form or another.

Everytime this happens, people always call out they are so shocked as to how and why this could happen.

Some token action is taken.

The event is forgotten within 72hrs after something else grabs the publics attention.

Let me ask you this, can you tell me how the last 10 suicides occured?  (I'd be surprised if you remember the 3rd most recent one)

I've realized that noone really cares about suicides by children, and they are viewed as more an inconvenience to one's daily schedule more than anything (and it's annoying to pay the 30k won).

I say this because so many have died, yet nothing is ever done.  Hence, society really doesn't care or feels that changing creates a greater social inconvenience and cost than just burying the kids.

Hence, they will keep on burying the kids and I stopped caring if they jumped.

My life has been much more stress free after taking this position.

I try to care, but after so much antipathy on the part of society, I just stopped.

Sad to say but this comment is very true. Nothing gets done and we kind of become desensitised.
