Regular Classes in Feb?
« on: December 17, 2010, 01:46:43 PM »
Hey Everyone;

Just want to know does anyone else have regular classes return to school in Feb? I have my grade 5's come back for their last period of "Did you have a nice vacation" on Feb 7th (right after Lunar).  I was under the impression that regular classes where not on for Jan/Feb and then start again in March.
Can someone clear this up for me?

Thanks so much!
Kimberly

Hey, I have classes for one week too.
Feb 7th-16th.
This is an opportunity to finish up your lessons, or just do something fun.
I really don't understand why they are coming back for one week, but I'm just going with it.

Okay guys thanks for letting me know that several of you are in the same situation.  Just seemed so strange that I would have them for one week in Feb when I don't teach them at all next week and they are here!
Thanks so much!

Does this only apply to Elementary teachers?

February 7 - School starts again.
Feb 10/11th - Grade 3 graduates, Grades 1 & 2 end.
March 2nd - New semester starts.

Every public school in the country has a few days to a week of classes in February.

It is what it is

I have the same with my elementary school:

24 Dec. - 6 Feb. Winter Vacation
7 Feb. - 16 Feb. Return to school, 6th graders graduate, teacher's party.
17 Feb. - 1 Mar. Spring break
2 March - New School Year starts

My co-teacher told me that winter vacation is a just that, Vacation.  For the last week most teachers come to work for a few days to prepare for their students leaving.  Then, school is in session for a week to finish up a few lessons and say goodbye.  Spring break is when teachers prepare for their new students.

No.... there is proper teaching for about 8 school days in February since many people will be finishing the textbook.
I'm not cheering yet until 4 week Winter camp is over.

Yes. That's graduation week. It tends to be between 3 and 5 days long. The last day of which is when the oldest students will graduate. There will also be a regular closing ceremony for the other students to signify the end of the year. Sometimes it's the same day as graduation and sometimes it's before.
