Cambodia in the summer? Good or bad?

Let me chime in. I used to live in Cambodia.
If you want to travel from Ho Chi Min to Phnom Penh, take a bus, it is an easy route which will take 6 hours by bus including border crossing. Tickets can be bought in Dae Tem, district 1, tourist road of HCMC.
For the bus from PP to Bangkok, if you want to save time and hassle, I would say fly, a bus will take 13 to 14 hours, however, if you want to save money the bus is not a bad option. Remember if you fly you will still have to get a taxi to Khao San road ( if you want to stay there ).
Also don't be put off by the weather monsoon rains only last in short bursts, it's a good time to go and enjoy yourself.
All the best.

June-August: Hot and wet. The hot season continues but is fairly quickly moderated as the monsoon rains begin in May and June, cooling, if only a bit, the hot, humid air. Across most of the country, the monsoon rains are fairly predictable, usually occurring in the afternoon or at night. And the afternoon rains usually last no more than a couple of hours making them fairly easy to plan around, especially if you are visiting the temples or touring. In fact, the Angkor temples are at their aesthetic best during the wet season. The surrounding moats and reflecting pools are full, the jungle is lush and moisture bring outs the colors of the moss and lichen covered stones of the temples. Boat travel becomes easier and more reliable as the season progresses and the river and lake levels rise, but some roads sometimes deteriorate or become temporarily flooded. The pattern of monsoon rains tends too be different along the coast and the beach towns, where the rains are more frequent and, when the season is at its peak, may last for days at a time, though, unlike the rest of the country, the rain on the coast may stop for days at a time as well.
I think it's still worth it to go. Has anyone traveled during this time? I'd like to hear from you!

I was there last August. It's hot, humid and crowded around the temples. I also visited Thailand, Laos and Vietnam and can recommend Sapa and Hoi An in Vietnam and Chiang Mai in Thailand - both great places to visit. Chiang Mai has something for everyone, Hoi An is beautiful and Sapa is totally cool.

I lived in Cambodia for 2 years! July/August is a great time to visit. Everything will be green and beautiful. Also, the rain doesn't stop the fun in touristy cities, and it's not usually a consistent all-day rain.

i've also been bit by the cambodian travel bug, so to speak. Well, honestly, i've got a friend out there and I've been considering taking some time to visit them. I've done some light research on it but have found conflicting reports, so i'll ask you guys, do US citizens need to apply for a cambodian visa? even if you're only going to be there 3 or 4 days? and if yes, where can I do that?
Thanks guys!
