From Kentucky, now living in Seoul
« on: December 16, 2010, 11:11:40 AM »
I've been teaching here for about four months (middle school). Taught for three and a half years in Thailand (middle and high school). Enjoying my time so far.

This site is pretty awesome.

Hey! Welcome!

Middle-school teachers are very active here and it seems there's some great lessons floating around - should be useful!

Why'd you decide to come to Korea?

I'm thinking about teaching in Thailand.  What differences can you tell us about Thai and Korean schools and English teaching?

Also, do they have co-teachers in Thailand public schools?

Sorry for all the questions :)

I just typed out a huge message about Thailand vs. Korea but I guess my computer timed out and I lost it. If you have any specific questions, let me know....sorry. (they do usually have co-teachers, but often they quit showing up after a couple of weeks)

You must not be from Louisville then.  No decent Louisvillian would ever introduce themselves as being from Kentucky first.  Welcome anyway!

While from Louisville, I never claim to be a "decent Louisvillian". I'm assuming to be considered so, I would have to be arrogant and judgmental. These two things, I try to avoid. Thanks for the welcome though.

While not from Kentucky, I am a Centre College graduate, and even lived in Louisville for a summer.  Been in Korea just as long as you.  Nice to have some bluegrass representatives.  Welcome!

Ah the internet is a funny thing.  It's just a joke people from the city say of course.  Have a good time here.

Hey, I'm from Nashville AND Louisville.  :)

To add credibility to the joke above: I know a lot of people (Louisvillians and Kentuckians from Frankfort and Lexington) don't consider Louisville part of Kentucky...for whatever reason(s).   ::)

Since I've been in Korea, I've talked about KFC more than any other time in my life.

Kentucky born and raised! Proud Lexingtonian doing all I can to introduce Kentucky culture to Korean and my fellow waygooks. I will say I'm rather sad about the 14 hour time difference with the Derby.

Hey!

I'm from Cincinnati, which has more or less annexed a chunk of Northern Kentucky! :p
