Is there - or can we start - a 'Music' sticky?
I have a 'before school' class which the students elect attend so they are usually motivated and a relatively good level of English. It's a nice class but it's only about half an hour long and often interrupted by announcements and students being dragged off to other meetings for 5 or 10 minutes. 'Listening to music' is a favourite way to spend the time but I find that to make it even vaguely educational (i.e. not just flipping through K-pop on Youtube) takes hours to prepare, not to mention the time it takes to find a song with lyrics worth listening to and aren't full of embarrassing words.
Given that the class is so brief and often fractured I would feel happier putting the effort in if I thought they were going to be used by someone else somewhere. I'd also appreciate using other peoples' efforts too. I've found one or two on here but it's seems to be a matter of trawling through.
Anyway, here's Bruno Mars, Grenade.
I start by handing out sets of 12 pictures, cut up individually, get the students to describe them with as many words as they can.
First play (using MP3 only) of the song to connect words and pictures.
Second play (MP3) try to put the pictures in order.
Third play (MP3) with a copy of the lyrics.
Fourth play (PPT)with powerpoint to check order of pictures and check words/connections and elicit meaning of the song.
Fifth play ( Youtube) to just watch and enjoy video.
