Breast Reduction??
« on: May 11, 2012, 04:08:38 PM »
First, a quick note to the moderators- I would like to propose we have a seperate section for medical topics.  I think it would filter a sufficient number of the posts from "life in Korea" and likewise stream searches.

Second, the reason I am posting this thread:

I was wondering if anyone has information on breast reductions in South Korea.  It is something I have always wanted done.  I am a 32 C/D cup depending on the brand, so not terribly oversized.  I am athletic though.  I run and back home also rode horses on a professional basis.  My apologies to all the boys out there who might be want to disagree but even in a sports bra, the bounce just isn't fun.  I've lost weight before but the size of my bust doesn't budge.  So... as all else has failed, I thought it might be worth it to take advantage of the less expensive surgical options here in Korea.  Does anyone know what sort of price tag I would be facing and what the recovery is like (will I be able to still work?).

Thanks in advance for any helpful advice.
Cheers!

This is just my opinion so bare with me...  I really really don't think you want to put yourself through breast reduction if you are only a c/d.   Please look up how much cutting is involved.  From what I understand they cut under your breast up and completely around your nipple.  Recovery is not easy, you can't do anything physical for quite some time.  Both me and my sister have looked into it and what we discovered we both felt it wasn't worth it.  I am a 32 E, I know your pain.... but a good sports bra ($$$) can really help, I play many sports and am an avid runner and don't have a problem.  I would never ever dream of getting the surgery done, unless I was having severe back problems.

I'm fairly ignorant in this area...but, my understanding is that breast reduction is quite an invasive surgery (my mum had it done) and it's not really something you would want to have done where you couldn't control all of the variables. It's not the sort of thing I would consider simply from a cost perspective. If you speak Korean fluently, it's probably 6 of one and half a dozen of another.

Secondly, I doubt Korean surgeons have very much experience with it. I'm not trying to be funny, it's just the truth.

Good luck. I hope it works out whatever you decide.

To get the most helpful responses from people with experience, you may consider changing the post subject title.
"Breast Reduction Surgery" will get the attention of people with sonething to share.
The current title may be ignored by a lot of readers who anticipate a post about some K-pop stars botched nose job or sonething.
Good luck

This thread is discussing a criminal act and I'll have no part of it.

(I kid, I kid.)

All joking aside, I'd give this some serious thought before you go and do anything.  I dated a girl with H cups a while back who was considering having them reduced because they were causing back problems for her.  That was understandable.  C/D isn't an unusually large size, invasive surgery seems like a pretty drastic act for something that's not causing actual problems with your health.

Just thought I'd offer my thoughts, for whatever little they're worth, given my obvious lack of experience with the subject.

Yeah, OP, my mom had it done, too.  It turned out great for her in the end, because her breasts were a hindrance in her life, really, like E cups, while she's barely 5ft tall.  Anyway, she has a scar extending from her rib cage, straight up to the nipple, which they completely removed in order to reposition it.  I'm pretty sure it's impossible to not have lost some sensation around there.  Just a couple things to think about.  4" scars and loss of nipple sensation ... is it worth it?  Hang in there sister.
I also agree with another poster who said Korean doctors probably don't have too much experience reducing breasts.  Just a matter of fact, I think.

I would imagine you could get a referral from one of the larger international clinics at Severence or Seoul National University  Hospital.  Sorry I don't have those numbers or links, but they should be fairly easy to come by.

I think it would be good to have some information on this topic in addition to the advice being given. Has anyone had a consultation done here?

Also, my relatives (aunts) have had the surgery done but only when it was totally necessary for health reasons (back problems). My cousin made an alternative decision and had lipo done on her breasts. It worked but only for a short period of time and then the fat seemed to accumulate again.

@Swissmiss I had a reduction and lift in Feb with Banobagi in Seoul.
You will need about $10K average for the surgery.
Its very painful but I had lost weight but the boobs stayed the same size and didnt look the way I wanted them , so I went from a big C to a med B.
I am very happy with the results. You need to do your own research before  so you know the complications and after care.
At banobagi they have translators but the English is not always clear , so I am glad I knew what I was in for.
I had the op Sat morning, went back home Sunday afternoon. Took 3 days sick leave and still felt rough going to school after that.
I think it would be better if you pm me if you need more info since it has many pro's and cons.

Yes that is the max you could pay-(Im adding in my transportation costs to Seoul in that but yes its expensive!)
You could go to a place in Thailand and pay $3500-
I was not going to take the discount surgery route as an option.

...so bare with me...

Yes, please!

Apologies, but this is one of my particular grammar sensitivities, and I couldn't resist considering the topic.

Seoul Sky Hospital has an amazing Doctor who specializes in both cosmetic surgery (like breast augmentation, liposuction, etc) and gastric bypass/lap band surgeries. He speaks amazing English and has many many years of experience. The staff also speak great English, I would check them out for sure, and they have reasonable prices as well ~
