Any University Positions out there?

(1/2) > >>

dejiamoo:
Hello all,

I am about to finish my first year teaching in Korea!
I've worked in a high school in the Janggi area in Gimpo for approximately 9 months.
My teachers are asking me if I want to stay a second year, but I have not made a decision as of yet.
I decided to cast a wider net for other opportunities.

To the subject of this Topic:

Does anyone know of any university jobs out there?
I have a Masters Degree in Biology and I hear a Masters degree is the only requirement for university positions. Is this accurate?
Alternatively, can anyone point to a website where such jobs openings can be found?

Any and all input concerning the topic is welcomed.  ;D

Thanks!

My friend just showed me this link a few days ago http://www.unijobskorea.com/  It looks like they have some pretty good postings for university jobs.

I'd avoid Soonchunghyang university like the plague.  If you want specifics PM me.

They have a big turnover every year.  That should be clue enough.

Well, it depends what kind of university position you want.

There are a lot of unigwon deals where the university runs a private program on campus. Also, there are jobs for full-time lecturers and assistant professors. Most of these jobs are non tenure track. In addition, universities have been a lot pickier these days of which masters you have. A lot prefer MA in TESOL/Ling/English. However, if you settle for a 3rd tier, maybe 2nd tier university, you might be able to find one.

Be warned though, there are lot of bad, bad deals with universities where they place you in horrible living situations. Universities have been known slash housing benefits. I recommend going to Dave's ESL Cafe. There is a whole thread about it here: http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=219453

"I hear a Masters Degree is the only requirement for university positions."
It's not the only requirement, but generally a minimal requirement.
Look at the ads on the above website and Daves ESL to find what employers want.
More positions start in March but they'll be a bunch for September, too.
With an unrelated degree (not education, linguistics, TEFL,etc.) and with only one year experience (not university) you'll do very well to land a uni job.
It's possible but you'll have to go outside major cities.
Some ads may not sound that competitive but those employers get flooded with experienced applicants.
Set a wide net and good luck.
